Angry Longest time to ship to US ever?

I am curious what the longest time in transit was for anyone. I placed my order on the 6th of October and the car was produced and at the dock on October 14th. Unfortunately, that dock was not Bremerhaven, but rather Durban, South Africa (to my surprise). The car sat there until November 11th when it finally got on a ship headed to Port Hueneme, via New Jersey and Charleston! I called the shipping company (Mitsui OSK Lines, on the Sunshine Ace) and they said the ship is expect at Port Hueneme on or about the 18th of December (but it was way to early to tell). I was afraid for a while that the car would have to go to Bremerhaven first, but that idea, posted in many threads here, was not true (luckily).

Ships last known location off of Cape Town 4 days ago: http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/def...201:00:14%20PM

My car was produced late July and didn't arrive until Mid-October, you're still WAY ahead of that.

That does sound like a terribly long wait. It sure is timing I guess, considering I was told 6 weeks and my car was ready for delivery at the local dealership in 35 days.

Maybe because I placed my order on Good Friday (04/06/2007)!

Went into production on 04/10/2007, production complete on 04/17/2007, arrived at port 04/20/2007, left Bremmerhaven on 04/25/2007, arrived at SC preparation center on 05/07/2007, was available for pick up in Houston TX on 05/11/2007, picked up on 05/12/2007.

The timing is a crucial issue for me as my old car was bought back as a lemon, so I am borrowing cars to fill in the wait time. Luckily, my CA has arranged a loaner car for me until my car gets here.

So on BMWUSA Account Login it went from On Order 4/6 to 01. "Schedule for Production" on 4/10 to .02 "Awaiting Transport" on 4/17?

Maybe your ship took a wrong turn in the Bermuda Triangle

But seriously, I wouldn't worry about that. Tracking websites aren't always the most reliable, and any number of things could cause your ship to "disappear," including just the ship being in the middle of the Atlantic and out of range of the tracking system.

Actually, I just clicked the link and saw that you're using the same website I did. My ship "disappeared" for a couple of days while it was in the mid Atlantic, too, so there's your answer.

The trip from Durban to the left coast is a long one. I'm surprised that it didn't go to Bemerhaven first.

It will drop cars off in NJ, then NC and then the trek through the Panama Canal.

So December 18th is probably realistic.

If you were given your VIN or a Build Sheet when the order was confirmed, you would have known it was a South African built car (I have one).

They are unloading cars there for the UK Market could take 1 - 2 days.

Cheers

Nope, there were other steps in production like body shop, paint shop, etc. prior to awaiting transport.

You are right. They finally left Southampton early morning today. , but for some odd reason my cargo vessel "Tokyo Car" is docked in the middle of the ocean. http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/def...0&type_color=7
