Which way to go

Okay so right now I'm looking at two potential options for my next car.

Option 1: Brand new 335xi coupe with sport, cold weather and premuim package

about $48,000

Option 2: 2006 530xi manual certified preowned with about 34k miles. Pretty much loaded except for no sport package and the colors aren't my first choice but i still like the way the car looks

about 39,000(msrp, probably can get another 1-2k knocked off)

so which way would you go and why? The onlyhings holding me back are the CPO warranty on the used car vs bumper to bumper warranty and ultimate service on the 3 series and Also the fact that performance wise the 335 would kill the 530.

So what do you all think? Is it worth sacrificing a lot of straight line speed for a bit roomier interior and more options?

I picked option 2 because i've had some bad experiences with used cars, and with BMW you're going to need all the warranty you can get. Another downfall of option 2 is that he E60 without sport package is actually pretty loose feeling and it comes with a shiteous steering wheel.

If money's an object you can really save by not getting the sport pack or the cold weather pack. I just got the heated seats from the cold weather package because the headlight cleaners are prone to breaking (there's an active thread about a new victim on e90post as we speak). The sport package doesn't come with different suspension, so sacrificing the slightly more bolstered seats might be an option (especially considering how many people are selling the sport wheels at a fraction of the cost).

I'm guessing you're not interested because you didnt make it an option, but you might like a 335xi sedan. The facelifted model is on the way with the coupe's front fascia if that appeals to your eye more. It's also a $1k or so less expensive than the coupe.

Looks: e92 looks sooo much better than the e60 (ESPECIALLY the pre-facelift version). I personally hated the pre-facelift e60, but I love the post-facelift one, funny huh?

Performance: Don't even need to bother with this one. Agility, speed, you know the deal here.

Interior: Besides interior space, I actually think the materials are better/par with the pre-facelift e60s. Yes, they changed a lot in the facelift.

Practicality: The 5er is roomier, has a larger trunk, and is more comfy. Definitely the winner.

I'd definitely pick the 335Xi.

With a price difference of almost 10k I don't see what you're comparing. Not only that, one is a big sedan and the other is a coupe.

price difference is a lot, but the 530 will lose more value than a 335.
and 335 adds more to the ultimate driving machine feel

How so?^^

A CPO'd car has already taken the brunt of the depreciation.

I voted for the 335xi...
-Brand New (better warranty, service, resale)
-Better performance all around
-You get to pick all your options, color, trim, etc..
-Unless you're married with kids, a coupe is the way to go IMO.

The 530 already has 30k on it, you don't know how they treated their car, or how bad they were with clutch/tranny, etc...

Heh, I'm on a bit of a Euro delivery kick, but if you did ED, you can probably get the car for like $46-47k out the door including taxes. (Something to think about.

That doesn't make sense. The brand new 335xi will lose WAY more value than the used 530i. But whatever, I voted 335xi. Way more fun.

If you can afford the extra $$$, go for the new car. That aside, I think the E9X 335i is a blast to drive.

Lastly, you get to choose the color and you get "new car" smell

335xi Cp hands down - if for only one reason: looks and then 2nd: engine...

I think you could knock off more than a 2k on the 530xi.

Find out how much they go at auctions and add roughly $2k on top of it ($1k for CPO i think and give the dealer $1k for profit and stuff)

30k miles for an 06 is kind of a lot though, isnt it?

335xi all the way

You live in Colorado - turbo is your friend, for both gas mileage and the next time you want to drive up Floyd Hill.
