Process of Elimination:

Balance tires
Alignment
Control arms and bushings should be replaced ever ~100k miles at a minimum
Tie rods (~100k miles replacement as well)

This will solve 95%+ of the people in this thread having problems. You can generally tell it's time for their replacement through brake feel - the car will seem to dive forward when the brakes are applied.

Hmm, dealing with this as well, mine shows up at 65 then dies down a bit. Only noticeable on fresh pavement, but it's there, and it's sole dependent variable is road speed.
Perfectly aligned.
Freshly balanced OEM wheels.
100k mi

Is it the control arm bushings that need actually need replacing or does the entire control arm get bent?
Also is it the front forward control arm or the front rearward control arm (also called a tension strut), or both that are the issue?

So from this thread it looks like a good order to check next would be LCA bushings --> tie rod ends (and possibly the rods/arms themselves) --> guibo (Is there a front guibo for XI?) --> Rotor corrosion.

Miss anything?

If you're doing the guibo/flex disc/donut/whatever you want to call it, also replace the driveshaft centering sleeve that goes in the transmission end of the prop shaft. If your guibo is flogged out then it will take out the centring sleeve also.

The shake of the steering wheel left-right 0.5 cm between 40-60 mph what is that caused by? I had it in all my bmw

My car has 78k miles and I contemplate if I need to spend money on new control arms, tie rods? No suspicious sound from suspension and wheels are ok. I have 3 sets of rims with new tires and balanced with hunter machine so its not wheel related.

Bumping this because I stumbled upon my own post from 5 years ago in this thread In that time I've done

Another set of wheels
New tires (multiple different sets)
m3 front control arms
Hotchkis adjustable sway bar links
alignment (probably once a year)
road force balanced wheels (more times than I could count)
Removed spacers

Im starting to lose my mind. Next thing im going to be looking at is my driveshaft flex disk/guibo.. I also have the ecs geomet rotors front and rear like some people have said gave them issues. so that will be after the guibo. If anyone has resolved their issue post up.

Easy way to determine if it's your suspension arms instead of wheel balance: jack up your front wheel and try to tilt it side to side; if it moves/ is loose, you need to replace the tie rod end / lower control arm / tension strut - I found out I need tie rod ends doing this.

A likely culprit, honestly. Driveshaft vibration is a common problem as mileage goes up. With a typical two-u-joint driveshaft, if any of the 8 U joint hinges go bad it can start to cause vibration, and if the driveshaft itself gets even slightly out of balance for any number of reasons it will definitely cause vibration. CV joints on the shaft are smoother and less likely to cause vibration, but I don't know what BMW uses. If anything like a flex disc, guibo, or bushing goes bad it can also vibrate a shaft depending on the mode of failure.

Because the turning bits are really hard to get to on this vehicle (compared to an old truck) I'm doing the front end stuff recommended here first, but I haven't ruled it out for me and you've done so much other stuff it's where I'd look if I were you.
Remember if it's XI you have two driveshafts. Double the fun!

I don't know if this would work on an XI but on a 4wd vehicle to diagnose you can put it in 4wd, remove the rear driveshaft, and then drive it to see if it's smooth without it. Or just take the shaft into a driveline shop for testing.

Upper and lower control arms and tie rods

I replaced all three things and that took care of my problem. I had all sorts of of vibrations at various speeds and braking. Did a new alignment and that fixed it.

Guibo makes perfect sense as a possibility, rubber is going to tear after a while and cause an inbalance.

Hopefully one of those will solve my issues. I was very confident it was the control arms but that didn't seem to change it at all. Will report back if it does fix it.

Guys need your help. For 1 month ago I parked my car and next morning when I drove to work I started to feel this nasty vibration coming from the drivetrain when going over 40 mph. It feels like driving on rumble strips.

Got the car to the workshop and they said one of the drive axles is bad and the other one is a bit worn. Got them replaced both and paid 1000 euro, I got the car and is still vibrating. They said winter tires are also bad so I got home and mounted my summer wheels which I know were perfect, the vibration is still there.

I feel cheated now of paying for new drive axles which have not solved my issue.

Guibo discs are ok, center bearing I dont know.
But I am very disapointed with the car and consider getting rid of it.

Hi vladmury! I have a similar problem with rear vibrations above those speeds, it feel like just how u described. Some people tell me drive axles and some tell me rear shocks need replacement. I'm thinking propeller shaft center bearing, did you come to any conclusion?

I need to go back and see if the center bearing is Ok.
The shocks are new and the guibo disc is not cracked.

I will know next week, I am scheduled the 12 January. However the vibration is reduced after replacing the drive axles, I suspect the remaining vibration is caused by the tires. I will replace them in the weekend and report back.

Did you find out anything at the garage,
did they look at the driveshaft center bearing?

I havent been yet because the garage called me to postpone until next week. However I replaced the tires and got them rebalanced, the vibration is still there no change.

That confirms it has nothing to do with the tires. The only remaining rotating part is the driveshaft, hopefully the vibration sensors will confirm that

Well folks the vibration sensor did not show where the rumble is coming from. I already used a lot of money chaising this issue so will leave it as it is for now.
