Creaky Suspension

Seems my e90 has developed a bad case of old age.

Any slow progress over bumps is met with nasty creaking from the front of the car.

Its a 2009 plate with 45k on the clock you would think it shoudl suffer from these issues.

I suspect its the ARB bushes as seems to do it even more when going over speedbumps / speed cushions.

Any ideas on cost of these as I doubt it would be covered by extended warranty.

I had this and had the car back at BMW loads of times looking for the problem replacing all sorts of parts as they went. Eventually it turned out to be what they called auxiliary bushes - basically the bump stops at the top of the struts/shocks.

Put new ones in and it's been fine ever since.

I don't think the parts are that much, they're basically just little rubber discs. Not sure about the work involved.

I'd try a quick squirt with WD40 or some other sticky spray grease first to confirm the source of the noise.

Mines the same not hugely annoying just there on speed bumps will try a little wd40 , don't think it'd much as it still handles well and little roll in corners

Most likely dry binding ARB bushes.

Does it squeak if you bounce up and down on the door cill? if so it isn't the bump stops as they don't come into play until the suspension is almost fully compressed, so if it squeaks with small movements it is the ARB bushes.

You don't need to replace them, just get them greased, a good silicon based grease will do, and it should be fairly water resistant too. My indy and birds reccomend the white grease that comes in sachets with BMW brake pad kits, any BM garage will have loads lying about.

That's your best and cheapest first bet.

Had mine done twice, free of charge at an indy service as its so easy.

What a peculiar scenario? Does the noise come when the car is parked up but its very windy outside? I read somewhere about falangees but i dont know what they are.

Our bed creaked once, then shortly after it was replaced.

I think my car makes this exact noise.

It only appears to happen sometimes. Usually if I dont hit any big speed bumps its totally fine.
Then if I hit a big one (at very low speed) it will make the noise and then for the next couple of days even smaller bumps will make the noise.

If I bounce the car when its stopped, I can replicate the sound. It only seems to happen over speed bumps.

I am in surrey too, so be interested to hear if you get this fixed and how much for?

I also get another noise from the front left of the car, its kind of a sqeaky rattle that only happens when going around roundabouts or other long turns.
Only happens when turning right.

Roll bar bushes shot, or need some lube.

Its a half hour job.

Exactly the same as I had. Problem went away when dealer replaced various parts but always came back a week later or so. Only went away permanently when they replaced the auxiliary dampers.
