OEM M3 Spoiler placement?

I have an 08 e92 and just got a OEM M3 spoiler and have noticed that it isnt placed right at the edge of the trunk. I tried asking a few dealerships parts departments if they knew what the offset was and they didnt know so I was wondering if anyone on here knew. For example, is it a half an inch or an inch away from the edge of the trunk. Thanks for the help.

They don't go all the way to the edges of the trunk. However what you're saying of half to an inch of space would indicate an issue. The gap should be just several millimeters.

I wasnt talking about the sides. The spoiler fit perfectly. What I was talking about was how far in the spoiler is set. From my search a lot of people mounted it flush with the trunk before noticing that it is different on the M3 and now do either based on preference. From what I can tell the most definitive answer I found was that it is a 1/4-1/2 inch in but I thought someone had measured it on an M3 by now for and exact number. If anyone has come up with an exact number that would be nice. Thanks for your help though wj4.

I would suggest going to the dealer and measuring yourself, if that is not possible try going to the M3 forum and asking someone to measure their car, someone will help you

I placed mine about 1/2 of an inch setback in the middle of the trunk...and as it comes around to the sides it's about 1/4 inch...looks probably identical to the M3 placement...I like it.

Ok so I went to the dealer and measured it on a coupe and a sedan. The sedan has an inch on both sides and is set in a 1/4 of an inch while the coupe is a 1/4 of an inch all around.

If you view the spoiler from directly above, the top rear edge of the M3 spoiler should match up with the the top rear edge of the trunk lid. This will put the base of the spoiler about 5-6mm forward of the trunk lid edge.
