Another Oil Filter Housing Leak/Intake Valve Deep Cleaning (with DYNOS)

I hate to tell you guys, but it's not if the oil filter housing gasket will fail, it will be when.
It's happening more and more and there's a DIY already but I thought I would add some more pictures.

Since the Intake Manifold needs to come out, I thought I would clean the valves.
It really wasn't that much work, but it was tedious.

This is what I used:

-A crap load of Brake Cleaner (I used 2 cans but probably could have used more)
-A long flat head screw driver to scrape the valves
-A stainless steel wire brush to clean the ports
-Shop Vac to suck out any excess brake cleaner and dirt/grime

If I were to do it again:

-A longer flat had screwdriver with a smaller head
-A long long brush. A guy at work told me about a rifle cleaning brush. That's a great idea.

Something to keep in mind:
My friend is a BMW tech and said that when they clean the valves, they bring each cylinder to top dead center and put in a strong cleaning solution and let it sit. He said that this slution is a lot stronger than carb cleaner. They do not scrape anything because they don't want to ruin the finish on the valves, but I think that if you were to use a softer brush then everything will be fine. It's definitely something to think about though.

I have: 11427537293 - filter housing gasket. did you replace the intake gaskets?

Nice write up. I just took my car in to BMW because my car is eating oil quickly. It went from being topped off to saying I need to add a quart in 700 miles. I told them I think it's the oil filter housing gasket, and the SA said it was unlikely, although I'm pretty damn sure it's the problem. Hopefully they do actually check it like I told them. *crosses fingers*

They actually did not look that bad compaired to other pics i have seen of Audi RS4 DI engines after halv the mileage.

I don't understand what you are asking about the valve stems.
No oil cooler will contribute to this.

I did not replace the intake gaskets. They were completely fine.
I just made sure that the surface of the head was very clean and I took a little bit of oil and made sure each gasket was moist.

Any thoughts on using high temp silicon gasket maker as a gasket for the housing. In all likelihood the gaskets we use to replace the damaged one will fail as well.

Perhaps a high temp option may prevent that in the future. There is a nice groove to follow so there would probably be minimal spillage.

Mine looked worse.
Bolts are cheap but I used some I found at Loews. 7x1.0x50. fit fine. Not sure what the repercussions of using headed bolts instead 2 sided bmw bolts. Mine snapped on the third replacement of the intake manifold so I replaced them with the bolts from Lowes.

How did you get the plastic bank of wires off the bottom of the manifold? I saw some clips but couldn't get them to release??
