Tempted to change to a 335i....
I'll keep it short and sweet...
I've got a January '09 E92 335d M-Sport with about 20,000miles on the clock. I'm toying with the idea of switching to an E92 335i M-Sport of similar age/spec (either a manual or DCT). Would it be worth it and what sort of cost to change would I be looking at? Over to the panel... |

Why not change, if your in a position to do so and fancy a change. But it is very similar as someone had said. But it will have "that" sound etc. Otherwise it won't be as much fun "doing" people as it does in a denz!

He's buggered off now!
Suppose it would be different as in sound and power delivery but yours has a stronger reliability record if we're being totally honest, but ok, warranties etc. Think the Big D is worth more age and mileage like for like? and would you want manual or DCT? |

It's mainly for the sound and power delivery. I feel like I want more rev range to "play" with.
I'm guessing briers knows where I am coming from. I do have major reservations regarding the reliability. bb, manual would be good but I'd settle for DCT, no slushboxes though. I think you guys are right, probably too similar to bother really but it is tempting at the same time! Edit: the other option is to go NA and get a 330i??? You will miss the copious amounts of torque your used to if you get a 330i!

But that's the whole point, the big D engines offer fuck loads of power for sure but it's it's quite boring in it's delivery. With a higher revving petrol engine you have to "work" it a bit more, make it scream, to get the best out of it...I think that's what I miss...

330i will feel a lot slower, until you start pushing the engine and working the revs. As Carlos says, you will miss the torque as the 330i doesn't really come alive below 4000 rpm.
The 335i sounds nice, but there isn't any real need to rev it hard. On that basis, it is actually quite diesel-like. |

Considering I went from a 330i to a 335d could not imagine doing it the other way around tbh as silky smooth and lovely sounding the 330i is on full chat.
Think the 335d is a bit of a victim of its own success if that makes any sense. It does what it does very well. An analogy: The 335d is a bloke who is good at sex but slightly predictable and lacks the intensity of those rare others who really make the juices constantly flow. |

be careful now...altho u got more "rev range" with the 335i....goin up the higher rev range wouldn't give u any "kick"....power is very smooth and linear throughout the whole rev range with the 335i.....
so don't expect some "break your neck" kick at the top of the rev range....but havin a high reving engine is definitely good fun....and the sound!!!! With the JB plus, the power delivery is still quite linear...but very fast... definitely sound will be an improvement.... |

bb, I hope you don't mind me saying, you're an absolute minx!
You guys are right, the 335d is a great car, I do actually have quite a lot of fun driving it...maybe it's a case of "better the devil you know". |

First thing that came to mind........if I've any inhibitions about that at my age there's no hope. You're right it is a great car and I did think of the M3 but not sure how much of a concern fuel is tbh. I daren't ask who Terry is Kevin........... |

I'm heading along a similar path, I want some NOISE when I put my foot down and have never gotten over my other half saying mine sounded like an angry tractor. I might look to get an M3 for a year and get it out of my system. By which time I'll be 40 and ready for an estate
