other than the OEM BMW stuff, are there any other alternatives?

I used redline D6ATF. Yes ATF in a MT, for this brand anyway. No issues

Buy 3 liters. Redline d6atf is good. I replaced with d4atf. Others have used redline mtf. All are fine, some are preferred over others in certain climates.

Redline MTL. Better lubrication at a cost of less cooperative shifting until it warms up on cold mornings. Approx 1.6 qts.

thanks fellas. ill try the D6 ATF. It gets pretty cold here in the winter so im going to avoid the MTL for now.
