It's good to know that my little FlexFuel E92 can keep up with a RB car with full bolt ons.

Hmmm from what I read on the other forum, some of the runs weren't clean.....just food for thought

Today was a good day. 1 more day tomorrow before the drive home. My 335i had to shift into 6th gear (with 3.46 rear end) well before the 1/2 mile. Probably hitting around 175mph

There were 4 other single turbos there. All of them did well although a couple 6AT had a few 4-5th gear shifting gremlins early on in the day which were sorted out. CaptainInsano's 6MT 335i was doing great too. Another freshly-installed single turbo 6mt car just showed up at the hotel tonight and should be racing tomorrow if all goes well.

I'm sure we will have plenty of videos to post up later. Wedge's last race against Terry/BMS's 135 was particularly interesting.

Cheers,
shiv

Not to create controversy, but if anyone was wondering..

"Just got back from the Shift Sector runway race. All told it was around a 7 hour drive round trip including a snow storm (!) Friday night going over the pass. Only had a few hrs of sleep last night. So I'm fairly exhausted.

The event didn't quite turn in to the FFTEC vs. RB turbo shoot out we were all expecting. Apparently they wanted to use today to tune the cars and tomorrow to race them. So I didn't race any single turbo cars and I don't think any of the other RB cars there today did either.

The FFTEC guys and their customers were great and Shiv was a gentlemen as usual. Although he voiced his displeasure at me asking his customers to race. Not that I was expecting to beat anyone but as I told him when am I going to see 7 single turbo cars in the same spot again? He asked me to come back Sunday to race but that didn't work for my family & schedule.

Other than that I had a great time. I ran the 135 in 500rw trim and it did very well. It was running around 160mph at the cones and did a best of 7.8 60-130 on the VBOX on an incline. It was fender to fender with Eric's tuned E63 (580rw), and put a few cars on Longboarder's supercharged DCT M3 (~560rw IIRC).

After the morning runs 5th gear started acting up again so I lowered the additive from 80 to 70 to reduce the power a bit. It helped for a run but then finally let go on my last run. "Sick335" who also has RBs also lost 5th gear. So it appears this may become a trend for those running these power levels. I'll start troubleshooting it. David was there in his manual trans RB car and was hauling ass all day. Overall I think the RBs did very well.

The only other N54 I was personally able to race was Wedge's who came all the way down from Oregon for the event. FFTEC told me he put out 500rw on the dyno with stock turbos. It sounded a bit high to me but it seemed to be something they were keeping under wraps so I didn't ask too many questions.

Our first run we were not able to coordinate the start. I got up to 50mph at the cones, but he was a few cars behind, so I slowed down, then he went, then I went, then I think he slowed down, so I slowed down, and then next thing I knew I wound up a couple cars behind having to chase him down. The next race we had the same problem only I just left when I got to the cones with him maybe a car behind. Second race I just let the trans shift itself at redline hoping it would hold 5th but at around 140mph 5th gear finally let go so I just coasted through the cones. I didn't see how far back he was. By then it was 3:30pm and they closed the lanes for the "top dog" races, so I headed home. "

I personally love that there are multiple tuners out there willing to challenge and push each other, pushing this platform to its limits.. It a win for us consumers. Let's not be petty and appreciate that we are all enthusiasts.

Correction, Wedges car made 420RWHP on a Mustang dyno, which is approx 500 at the crank. I was there at the race today and Wedge had '450' written on his window, which is the estimated HP at the crank.

So transmission loss is ~20%, if 420rwhp is ~500 crank hp? Is it the same for MT and AT?

20% is very optimistic, it's more like 15% on manual transmissions. On automatics may be like 20% but I think their torque converter locks up 100% too so it's about the same loss at those loads.

EDIT: Since a stock 335i does about 250whp on a Mustang you have to add 20% to meet the BMW's stated 300hp so maybe 20% is a correct number.

So when will we see some videos of single turbo vs RB in which none of the drivers complains of transmission issues, bad start synchronization, missed gears, etc. ?

These are Mustang Dyno numbers, this particular dyno reads 19% less HP than dyno jets used for comparison.

Don't mean start anything, but this is not true at all. I personally spoke to Wedge at the event and he gave me full rundown on his car, saying that it made 500+whp. Based on that, not surprising that him and Terry were a close race.

And FYI, the numbers people put on the window are often heavily sandbagged.

Given Terry and I had a clean race yesterday and ran door to door the entire run (video footage forthcoming), I'm more than willing to represent him and run any of the single turbos willing. The outcome would be a good proxy for how Terry's car would have performed in my place.

Hit me up at the event if anyone's interested.

Wow..excellent numbers for stock turbos. Being that you and Terry were neck and neck on a clean run...it will be awesome to see you and Wedge racing today!

Putting all the mechanical and otherwise problems aside, what a great event... Unfortunately i didn't get to run a single turbo, got denied a few times by single guys due to technical problems(which i completely understand, had quite a few of my own), but i wasn't too persistent as there was such a variety of cars to race... I did put in a few races against cars that ran the single turbos while i was racing somebody else, which allows me to assume the outcome of what it would have looked like. From what it seems, it would be a very close race. Both setups still need to figure out certain problems. Misfires, slipping trans, torque converters, and traction seem to be main issues at this point(just like with any other high powered, rwd cars). I'm sure by next event we will have 2 strong running twin and single cars to be lined up. RBs still have a lot of room for improvement without touching internals, so personally, i'm looking forward to e85 tune, and the 4-5 problem to be worked out.

I was extremely pleased with my cars performance other than the trans issues in 4-5. Videos will be coming soon.

Just a little teaser for you:
