drift car vs. track day/race car

I'm a pretty big fan of going sideways as well as going around the track as quick as possible.
I'm contemplating entering a amateur drift comp next month which got me thinking

what is the difference between a Track day/race labelled car and a Drift car?
suspension setup?

alignment and suspension setup will most likely be different on a drift car. I know of one Formula D pro team that has very particular alignment specs to make the car more controllable during drift. Also, tire size/choice may vary as well.

If you are just entering for fun, I wouldn't worry too much about it though.

Just put some narrow tires on the back of either of your Porsches and you'll have a perfect drift machine

gosh, i couldnt even imagine how fun that would be. Kind of a so good its bad situation with those cars haha. Their both my dads and i get to look at them every day (both my dream cars) yet he doesnt let me have a go with them when were at the track, and the only time he ever lets me drive them i'm limited to about 30mph haha. absolute torture.

stupidly enough though, i have maybe possibly tooken the 4.0 once or twice when he had his back turned, and OMG you do not need narrower tires, 325s feel like 195 whenever you even go near the throttle with the traction/stability control is off. god damn its fast though.

I'll make sure to come say hey and check the thing out as well as give both of you a handshake for using the car like it's supposed to be used.

My dad just picked up a 996 GT3, I'm trying to get him out to streets as well.

ya please come say what up, always looking to meet people and talk about cars.
thats awesome, i've grown up around porches and now i just cant help but love them. 996 GT3 is such a great car, i'm pretty adamant about using them for what they were built for (i pretty much forced my dad out there haha), keep pushing him! i'd love to see another GT3 out there.

I'm the same way with Porsches, grew up around them and they really are just the absolute best cars made. I did the same to my dad when he had his Spyder, he's only had the GT3 for about 2 weeks now and I think is still getting comfortable with it. It is a pretty daunting car, it's such a fingertip car it can be scary plus it has no electronics besides ABS. Well i'll definitely introduce myself to you guys out there!
