So last couple of days I have been going crazy because my car loses all the boost after hitting over 70-80 mph when I full throttle basically I have an 09 e92 with 40k miles the mods are bms DCI, jb4 g5 ISO,vrsf Dp and no muffler. So I ran the car with 50% e85 and 50% 93 for good 2 months and I just started having this problem last week so I decided to stop using e85 and filled up my tank with 93 octane straight 2 times and then got on highway full throttle from 40 to 100 on jb4 map 5 and once I got to about 80mph and 5.5-6 rpm I just lost all the boost and then when I would full throttle it would have stock boost but if I quickly switch the jb4 to map 0 and go back to map 5 it would give the 15-17 psi I get and as soon as I hit 5.5-6 rpm goin over 80 I lose the boost again
I emailed logs to terry and he said its fueling issue but how can it be a fueling issue if this happens on straight 93 oct gas?? Anyone else experience this kind of problem and know what is wrong with the car? Also the codes I get are 3 different cylinder misfires and boost leak code Are my turbos? Blown? As far as code I'm getting for under boost I'm thinking it can't be chargepipe because it seems to hold boost just fine from 0-80 with up to 18 psi So Please help! |

Have you changed your spark plugs yet? Everything you described sounds a like a misfire and spark plugs should be changed every 25,000 miles.
If you are getting an underboost code repeatedly then you are leaking boost somewhere, it might not be the charge pipe, it can be 1 of many vacuum lines or the connects to the pre intercooler or post intercooler side. |

Thank you so much for the info I'm freaking out as I'm still under warranty and have too many mods to undo and take it to the dealership if it were for blown turbos! As I know the turbos are know to fail on 07-10 335i especially when your pushing a lot of boost
Anyways if its just a misfire how could I fix that? Just change spark plug and ignition coils? And if I take it to the dealership to have this fixed do u think they might not fix it under warranty with the mods I have? And if its a leak in vacuum line or something do u still recommended taking my mods off before taking it to dealership for under warranty work? Because it going to cost me quite a few bucks to remove Dp and weld the stock muffler back on the car as I'm running no muffler currently Thanks again |

I'm leaning towards lean fail-safe that's built into the JB4; everything that you described indicates that it went into a fail-safe protection mode.
What is your OL setting at? Can you email or post your logs for us to view?

ok so here are two logs that i have back to back as i descirbed in the thread the first time i floored the car on map 5 i was able to hold full boost and run fine but right after i let the car down down to 40 mph and hit full throttle after about 80 mph it lost all the boost and went to map 4 and the engine service light kept blinking like 3-4 times and i would shut off jb4 and turn it back on to map 5 it will do a first pull with no issue but right after it goes back to stock
i m also attaching the logs please help asap if its a minor setting issue because im planning on spending the money first thing tomorrow morning to take all the mods off and take it to dealership to have it fixed under cpo. Thanks |

Some good news Guys! So was playing with OL setting after talking to local guys who have had similar issue and so far I did 2 wot from 40-110 and no issue yet so I guess I just have to play with OL if it keeps happening and no boost leak or anything so it was just the lean safe failure that kept going off as I would full throttle
Thanks for the help and if you can still add to what I should have my OL after looking at my logs above please do as I'm still trying to find better setting for this car as its my dd and drive around 70 miles a day |

Alright thanks guys so can someone explain how OL works with 100% 93 oct if I have OL at 100 does that mean I'm tryin to improve my AFR from being too high to low or is it vice versa cuz I talk to local guys here and they said my AFR is not good at all! And how I should set my OL if I have 50/50 mix of e85 and 93 oct
Thanks |

If your running high boost and jb4 went into lean run protection, I would work out what's wrong before running it hard again. If your jb tune is going into this failsafe on lean run that would mean your a/f is above 15 or 16 and that's not good at all especially during high boost and high rpms. Running it hard, forget about blown turbos, How about engine replacement because of detonation aka knock.

oops, just checked your AFR, your close to 15, you should hover near 12.6 IIRC. What is your OL set at?

Mine was doing the same thing. I got tired of messing with it and just set it to Map 0. Winter was coming anyway. You can send your logs to BMS and they should be able to help.

I had it set at 100 but I still keep the AFR around 14-15 in every log I've done! And when I let go off the throttle the AFR stays on 20 and when the car is stopped in drive its around 14.8-15.2 and at full throttle its at 13-14 and maybe 15 for a sec or two! so is that normal or not good at all?

Your readings are jumping all over the place, they should be pretty steady like this. Did you try to reset the JB4 to default its settings?
