Not that i'm an expert...but I think 80hp and tq is extremely optimistic. from what i've read...half that if your lucky. Dinan not considered good bang for the buck as far as tunes. Only benefit is no paranoia of voided warranty.

I'm pretty sure also that the Dinan S1 does not add that much power. I see it does add a big hole in your bank account though.

I got the Dinan S2 for $2,000 installed and couldn't be happier. We've had debates about tunes here and how Dinan is overpriced, but it feels strong to me...especially at higher speeds. The torque difference is more than noticeable. I haven't tried, but I know it's faster than my WS6 which I ran 13.4@ 108. I'd guess this is somewhere around 12.9 (and I think a member with S2 ran 12.9 at the track). The S2 seems to give a more "instant on" feel I grew to love w/ a V8. Then it pulls really hard after 3k rpm. Around town when you are granny shifting, you don't even know you have it, which I enjoy.
My opinion: JB3 doesn't seem to address enough parameters, giving me the impression it is not very comprehensive and potentially not as "safe" long term (just my feeling, zero data to back that). Warranty claims were a deciding factor here too. Procede also seems quite aggressive, which isn't what I wanted. I didn't want the most HP per dollar at any expense. Also, I don't care for Shiv. Warranty claims were an issue here too. BMW performance is another way to not jeopardize warranty, but the gains are so miminal and the price so high that I really couldn't justify those. In the end, I spent $2k for the reflash, but I have no real warranty concerns since I bought it from my dealer and I am happy with the result. Some might call me stupid for not saving $800 and getting a "better, more powerful" tune from Procede or save even more and get the JB3, but they don't offer warranty match. In the end, the money wasn't a big issue, so I went with someone I felt I could trust. Flame on, but things like ZPP, heated seats, heated steering wheel, and M Sport package are bigger wastes of money to me. Point is, anything can be a waste of money if you don't value or want it. It's not like Dinan charges a premium and doesn't match the warranty. If that were the case, I would have gone another direction. |

Stage 1 is only for cars that don't have factory oil coolers. If you have an oil cooler, get Stage 2. Stage 2 is comparable in power to all the other tunes for cars with stock FMIC's and DP's. Ignore piggyback trolls.

I am running a GIAC flash and I believe it is the best bang for your buck. JB3 is a piggyback, which uses an external third party to manage the stock ecu. If you want a flash that is reliable and a great deal, go with GIAC. They also have very good hp numbers. The fastest 335i on the track here on the west coast uses GIAC, not juicebox or dinan. Do et.

Seeing that I'm in the minority, I'm going to quietly give a thumbs up to the Dinan S1!
It is expensive, but the increase in power is very obvious. And seeing that I still have many years of warranty left, that was the deciding factor in my purchase. Dinan also seems to really know the car, and I feel extremely confident that you get a quality, carefully programmed tune. |

When I was looking to get my B7 A4 chipped there were a lot of options, however, you can go through StaSiS and keep your warranty.
StaSiS Software: ~$1100 REVO/APR/etc.: $500 + $300 for REVO Select (turn off chip controller) = $800 I wish I gone with StaSiS considering all of the turbo issues I had... Go DINAN and have that piece of mind; seriously. |

Truth to tell, we're all testers for these companies. I felt more comfortable, though, being a tester for Dinan. Seemed less risky.

For CPO owners like myself, Dinan doesn't make a whole lot of sense as they do not extend to a CPO warranty. So once your original factory warranty is up, and there's an issue with a turbo or wastegate Dinan will point their finger at BMW and vice versa. IMO a piggyback tune is safer for CPO.

I've got Dinan S2, and my car is a CPO - questioned the dealer about the warranty and everything's covered. Same thing on my previous E46 CPO. Also, Dinan has extended their 20% off sale until the end of June, making it possible to get the S2 with installation for about $2K. If you're not a track rat or drag racer, Dinan definitely works. I'm on my 3rd Dinan 3 series and every one of them has been worth it to me. Might not be worth it to others, though, and more power to them. Do what you want with your car and don't worry about having to hide your mods from the dealer. Of course, if that's not important to you, then there are the other tuning solutions as mentioned above.

Dinan Stage 2 at current discount = $1760 + $100 install = $1860.
Compare GIAC Stage 1: $800 + $150 (flashloader) + $200 (stock tune) + $100 install = $1250. That leaves you $610 to flash back to stock and then back to GIAC three times for warranty service. |
