Question Continental extremecontact DW vs Pilot Sport A/S Plus

I want to replace my stock tires with a new set of regular-non run flat tires.I have narrowed my selection to Continental extreme contact DW and Michellin Pilot Sport A/S Plus.On Tirerack.com Continental tires are higher rated than Michelin.I have always been big fan of Michelin tires, thats why I have hard time to make right choice. Please help me.I own 2007 335i with sport p.Thanks.

Michelin P/S for the win!

I have pilot sports on my 2011 sedan and I couldn't be more happier. Somehow, I think you already knew this though

I have the DW's and I love them. They aren't as responsive as the RFT's or the PS2's, but they are smoother and quieter.

I just had some huge problems with Continentals, belts breaking bubbles etc, 20k miles on ProContact Plus. Car was a gently driven 2008 A6 with no potholes etc. Continental wouldn't stand behind their product - a lot of searching around the web showed many issues and the same complaint that the Continental warranty means nothing and no one every is able to get a claim processed. Went to a local reputable indy tire specialist and his answer was that Continental makes mediocre tires at best and they have more than a normal amount of issues with their products and recommended to stay away from them. I would do PS/2's all the way - had much better luck with Michelin products and the M3 guys love the stock PS/2's that come on the M3's and a lot of guys on the forum have swithced to PS/2's and given rave reviews.

Just my 2 cents, but I will never give Continental any of my hard earned cash!

Conti FTMFW

Conti FTMFW! I could not be more happy. Had Michelins on my C32 and they were great after the break in but then about 4/5K got extremely noisy. Had another set put on (Michelin support = excellent) and they too had the same problems about 5K. Since then I have never trusted Michelins. Not a cost issue. My Conti's cost ~$900 the PSs were roughly the same maybe a tad more but that was not the deciding factor.

There was something wrong with the PS2's I had on my E90 with ZSP. They got rough after 70 mph. I balanced them twice and did an alignment at my local dealer. No luck.

I called Tirerack and they contacted Michelin, who offered me a substantial discount on my next set. Given the experience I had with the 1st set, I didn't want to buy the PS2's again, but I was impressed with the way Tirerack and Michelin handled the problem. I bought the Conti DW's and I'm happy I did.

Love my Conti DW tires, they're not very good until broken in but after that they truly are impressive.

Well said - in terms of handling. When brand new, they feel soft, especially in my E90 with ZSP at 32 psi. That makes them smooth and quiet but not very responsive. After they break in, the handling improves a lot and they ride a little rougher, but they are still smooth and quiet.

well I dont have the DW but I have the DWS...and after the break in there a lil bit quiter so I can agree to that....I actually have the PS/2 on my Cayman and those tires are good just too soft for my taste personally...but I'm sure they rock on the track...and I have a feeling they wont last long anyways...but I guess thats expected...its hard for me to do a 1 to 1 comparion between the tires because they really are on 2 different type of cars....hope this helps a lil...btw since the PS/2 wont last long you could go either way and try out both...I would suggest buy a set and c how it is and if you dont like it sell it...I'm sure somebody will pick them up.

in terms of warranty handling with the conti's...thats why you buy from a big name supplier like Big O tires which will handle all that stuff for you in terms of tread wear warranty etc...just my 2 cents.

The DWs are a different type of tire than the pilot sport plus A/S's, the A/S's are all season while the DWs are pure summer tires. The DW's are going to handle better but be bricks in cold weather or snow.

funny thing is over the past 2 years I've had both. Can't go wrong with either. The Conti DWs def handle better, feel a little less squishy, are just as quiet too. I loved my Michelin A/S Plus and still have them on a set of stock 17s, and may stick them back on in december or so... But since I'm in Texas the cold weather advantage of an all season tire is only useful for a month out of the year. The Michelin's def rode smooth, have great tread life and are extremely comfortable over bumpy roads.
The conti's ride just as quietly as the Michelin's but handle better, they feel like they have grip to a much further limit, but are a little tougher over bumpy stuff... but that might be because I'm running a lower profile and it is a max performance tire after all...

you can't go wrong with either one. and since you live in Pensacola you probably don't need the all season michelins... I'd go with the conti's if i were you. (they have good tread life too from what I've noticed. I have about 13k on my conti's and they are just as good as when I first got them, maybe a little grippier on center now)

The Michelins i highly recommend too if you just want a soft comfortable ride with great tread life or if you live in colder climates and you need an all season tire.

Good luck!

If it is the DWS, I plan on getting them as replacements for my OEM 230's soon. I am running GY asymetrics, but need something that will handle light snow.
