HPF FMIC...
Sorry for what many here will simply call "newbie exhuberance" but I just had the guys at Lutz Performance in Tampa install my HPF FMIC this afternoon. Freakin' incredible. So far I have Shiv's PROcede, AR Design 3" catless DP's, DCI, UUC SSK and now the HPF FMIC (and just in time for it to start really heating up here in FL!). Now it's on with suspension and brake upgrades!!!
Thanks Diego, Andrew and Patrick! Again, I realize a bunch here are WAY ahead of me with regard to performance enhancing the N54 but for many who lurk and are similar to my situation (and relative lack of tuning experience) with slow but progressive upgrades these things turn out more fun than humans should be allowed to have. Incrementally they add up to a whole 'nother level.

Congrats on the new purchase and install of the HPF intercooler...I have it for about 2 and half months and its finally getting warmer around the East Coast and I have to say its working very efficient..With warmer weather I don't see my boost getting any higher do to the pressure drop of the intercooler, plus IATs are drastically lower than the stocker, that doesn't come as a surprise!

I to have looked at aftermarket ic. I haven't ordered one because I decided to do meth instead. With the advantages of meth on the cooling Diderot and the octane raising levels, why upgrade to a fmic? Sure it will even much cooler, but $900 on a meth kit makes more sense than than $900 on a fmic especially using a tune already making more boost.
Would other people agree with me that when wanting to cool down a turbocharged car, first cooling solution should be methanol? And if those AIT are still to high, then upgrade to a fmic.

In your case since your leasing I would just do the meth and call it a day. Adding a intercooler will effectively make using meth more efficient since the iats will be lower than with oem. So basically the starting point of the iat will be lower when meth is injected

Understood. But wouldn't doing meth first then FMIC make more sense?

Like I said in your case yes. Not worth the added efficiency with intercooler since you have to return car back to stock upon the lease ending. Meth will be better for iat drops than intercooler. Meth trumps an intercooler. There are some mods that IMO are not worth the hassle if it's a lease car. Meth and intercooler are both I wouldn't do. On a lease the most I would do is a tune and intake that's it

I have strongly considered a meth kit and might eventually go that route. My approach has been to "balance" the platform a bit with each mod. Intake, exhaust, intake etc. I'm now at a point that the car feels perfect motor wise and I want to work on the dynamics of the "racing" platform and add coil overs, sways and brakes. I own, not lease and will keep this car for a few more years.
Just my persepctive and I have been fortunate enough to follow this board for a couple of years now. You guys have offered invaluable perspectives on so many different things with this car I don't think you realize how many out here have benefitted.

I'm with you on that one.....I did the meth on my 335i and its really worth it but i bought the AEM kit for $400 and it works just as good as the vishnu kit. and now I'm upgrading the turbos so I will need a better FMIC in this case.
