I'm also contesting two tickets in December and am waiting for my decision. Sent them the law to look at it since it was effective Oct.
Haven't received one since then been I always rock the law now in my dash with a big red Sharpie that says my sh1t is legal now. |

Well I went to the city of chicago for my hearing this morning and the judge told me that it doesn't matter what the state law is because i got the ticket in chicago and in the city of chicago there's a different ordinance which is no front tints....this sucks big time and so much for getting all our hopes up with this damn law!
The only way around is to get a signed letter from a doctor saying you need them for whatever reason and then bring that letter to the DMV in order to get special plates for your car. |

Figures. Fucking Chicago thinks they're and exception to the rule. Like they don't reside in the state of illinois.

actually any municipality can and most do have laws which differ from the state. They can be more restrictive but not less restrictive.

My car is registered in the burbs. Just got two letters today dismissing one ticket I received in early December and saying I have to pay for the other one I got in late December. WTF!!!!

Guys I think it is still illegal to drive with tints in Chicago. I just checked city's website and it still has window tint in their violation section.

http://www.cartype.com/pages/246/ill...ow_tinting_law UPDATE: 7-28-9. Andrea at the Illinois Capitol Office answers a very good question from one of our readers. Question: I emailed my alderman's office, and they said that even if Illinois passes a law allowing tint, the Chicago Municipal Code will supercede that law. So tint will still be illegal with a $250 ticket in Chicago until the Municipal Code is changed (at least according to my alderman's office)." Answer: NO that is not true. The Illinois Vehicle Code (Chapter 11 specifically) allows Chicago to adopt ordinances in regards to the movement of vehicles and rules of the road. However, tinting is not a moving ordinance but an equipment ordinance (Chapter 12 of the Illinois Vehicle Code) thus Chicago is not exempt from the law. This information came from the Illinois State Police. All this means that they can ONLY give you a ticket if you are parked or standing. A cop cannot pull you over for tint while you are moving! This simply means: if you have to park in downtown, park your car inside of a parking building and not on the damn parking meters outside. P.S.: I have some old, but still valid WV and Ohio plates..... Last edited by vasillalov; 04-16-2010 at 01:57 PM.. |

I don't think that is what Andrea was talking about. Tinting is specifically an equipment violation, and so it cannot be superceded by Chicago ordinances. Kinda like the state requires working Headlight, Chicago cannot say that working headlights are illegal. Moving or parked. |
