335i Engine in...X3 or Z4

I've thought about it since the minute I got my 335i and was wondering how many people think, or hope, they put our 335i engine in there X3 and Z4?

I think it would make for a sweet little SUV for the Mrs.

I also speculated right from the get-go that this engine would be put into the 2008 Z4.
I would think it would replace the Z4 M Coupe/Roadster and basically BECOME the new Z4 M.
BMW would only need to tune the car up by 30-40 HP and TQ (basically do a mini PROcede tune from the factory) and it would be a barnstormer in that "light" little car.

Anybody have any thoughts or insight into whether our engine is going to make it into the X3 or Z4?

I could see them putting it in the Z4 before the X3. Even though the M3 engine was shared with the Z4 M, I don't see them doing it with the V8 version. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, my point exactly.
I'd be surprised if they stuffed the V8 into the Z4.
If they did, I'd bet they would "detune" it to like 390-400 hp.
But still, I gotta think the V8 engine is a bit more expensive to make then the TT I6
And with so much tunability with the TTI6, it would make better sense I'd think.
The only issue then, would be whether they could justify calling it an M car with the same engine the "regular" 3 series gets.

I'm pretty sure the TT I6 will make it into the X3 and X5.
It would be 3 levels of performance
328i engine as base engine
335i engine as mid ground
4.8 V8 as top dog.

It would be a blast in the X3 with a PROcede.
Talk about a sleeper SUV.

No kidding, just the engine would definitely wake up the X3. Add a Procede and have even more fun.

I know they mentioned a low sulfur diesel is coming for the X series, but I haven't heard of them using the N54 TT. It would be nice to see the twin turbo as an option though.

i could see them putting the v8 in the z4, its not like its heavier, and it would fit

but they might want to keep the z4 as a lower cost car with the huge bump of the m3 in price

but man 3k pound z4 w/ that screaming v8 /sex

I think the V8 in the Z4 would just cost too much money.
BMW hasn't sold the current Z4 M well.
They are sitting on the lots here in sunny southern california.
If they can't sell them well here, don't know where they would.

They could drop the TT I6 in the Z4 M tho. drop the price a few grand and the sales would double.

I still don't think the "M" division will use turbos instead of their high RPM N/A recipe that they are famous for. But maybe the turbo would be available in a performance package version of the X3, X5, or Z4. But I'm most excited about what they might do to a performance package 335i from the factory. Also, with the 535i out now, the supply of TT engines is going to be even more scarce.

yea like i said they probably wont because of the price

i didntknow they were having trouble selling them though, wonder why, im sure they would sell more if it had the v8 though, even if it did cost more

If they made a Z4 with the 335 engine I would probably buy it.

Rumors rumors. As I understand it, 2009 will be the final year of production for the Z4. Whether or not it will be replaced by a 'new' Z4 is unknown.

Most Z boards seem to think that the V8 will make it in for 2009 (the last year) but the N54 will not, waiting instead to go in the replacement coupe for MY 2010.

I don't think anybody really knows.

BMW have released the twin turbo diesel in the X3 in the UK. This is badged as 3.0sd. The 3.0si tag is already used for the N/A petrol engined model so who knows.

Regards
