The N52 will have a higher compression still. N52 has a 10.7 while the N51 has a 10. But there was a difference in the head on the N51 like a different combustion chamber shape or something like different sized valves.
If I remember correctly I believe you need to add the 3 stage intake manifold on the N51 where the 330i N52 came with it. |

The N51 has the 3 stage intake though.

Is the 2008 328i a n52 or n51? And would that have the 3stage intake? I was reading somewhere that my car is a SULEV and it may have it..

Mine is SULEV too, 2007. I think that it is N51, and therefore it should have it. If we do add a stage 3 intake manifold, does it make it much faster than the N52's?

First off guys, if you have a SULEV 328i you have the N51. The N52 is ULEV. Secondly it's my understanding that EVERY N51 sold in America has the 3 stage intake manifold. My car certainly has it.

So we wouldn't have to buy a 3stage intake manifold, and the only diff is compression, compared to the 330i, am I right?

Right. Slightly lower compression to accommodate a different piston crown design. Someone on this board stated that you can get 270hp out of this engine with the right tune and that it's been done. That may be optimistic but I do believe the HP and torque numbers from the N52 high output can be achieved. 255 and 220 respectively.
