Oil leaking from timing chain tensioner bold

Is it possible for the timing chain tensioner bolt to be leaking, I have a oil leak up there and I can smell it inside the car sometimes after doing some research I found some oil around that area.

Which engine? I didn't realize that any of the E90 engines had an external timing chain tensioner bolt but I know some of the engines available with the E46 had that issue when the bolt was loose. That bolt used a simple crush washer just like an oil pan drain bolt. So if your engine really does have a timing chain tensioner bolt and it is, in fact leaking, have you verified that it's tight? Perhaps posting a photo would help.

According to Bentley, the tensioner does not come from the factory with a sealing washer. If you remove and reinstall it, Bentley says to add the washer. It is pretty easy to remove and inspect. Mine had the washer but I have an odd ball early 2005 build.

The best pics of the tensioner are half way down this thread. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1080990

Well, you learn something new every day. I had no idea it was there. The photo in the thread you linked shows a crush washer on the bolt.
