Guys,
Here you have the latest BMW Professional 2009.2 DVD for Europe This PRO version is for the following models: 1-Serie (E81,E82,E88,E87) 3-Serie (E90, E91, E92,E93 ) 5-Serie (E60,E61 ) 6-Serie (E63,E64 ) X5 (E70) Please keep in mind that this version is an image of the original DVD. So it doesn't contain speed camera's. You'll also need a Dual Layer DVD to burn this, as it is 7GB. Cover: rs461dt.rapidshare.com/files/231611405/Prof2009-2-COVER.jpg.html Label: rapidshare.com/files/231611676/Prof2009-2-DVD.jpg.html It can be downloaded here, but you'll need a usenet account: http://binsearch.info/?q=RM_02-2009_...v_age=&server= I am not the original poster of this DVD, it is a spot. Freude am Fahren ! |

It's big
I tried the usual addition of speedcams and removal of unused languages to get it to fit on a single-layer disc. What's left over is still too big so it looks like it will have to be a DL anyway.

The own burned copies of the BMW navigation DVD's tend to be slower in responding than the original ones.
Is that also the case with the Dual Layers we burn ourselves? Or do they respond faster. Anybody who wants to know the updates over the previous versions, please check the Navteq site. Also anybody who can provide me of a working DL brand as medium for these DVD's? Today I burned the 2009.1 on a TDK which wasn't recognized by my system. The Sony DVD+R DVD's are recognized. So I'll stick to Sony. |

You subscribe for access, pay a small fee and done. Then you'll need a download application. I use NZB drop on my Mac but there are tons of apps for Usenet. Just Google on it. In the application you'll add the credentials received for the usenet server. And when you click the NZB file the files are automatically added to the download list. 1 Hour later you'll have your DVD ready to burn. Happy driving. If you need more information, just search google on how to's and usenet. Good luck |

Two interesting observations
I have an original 2009-2 disc as I was clever enough to negotiate with my dealer that he gives me updates for free when they come out
However, I still make copies for use in the car both to obviate the need to worry about scratches, and to add speedcam POIs. I recently burned 3 test discs and noted two things: First burn was on TDK DVD+R DL and while the regular maps worked, no POIs worked and the system just hung on me if I searched for any POI category. Had to reset iDrive to eject disc Subsequent burns were on Verbatim DVD+R DL and worked fine. I tried two different icons for the speedcams, a large blue one 28x28 pixels and the small 16x16 one we have all been using for years now I first tried the disc with the new big icons and it worked great. I then ejected it via the eject button and popped in the other disc with the smaller speedcam icon. Guess what? System still displayed the large icon. When I reset iDrive and reinserted the disc with the smaller icon, the icons were now indeed the smaller variant. So it appears that the system caches the icons (and probabaly other stuff) when it first reads the disc. That's probably why the 5 minute wait after a new disc is required (which is bypassed by deliberately resetting iDrive). I do notice that the system behaves differently with a DL disc compared to the SL discs I could always use in the past after language-stripping (see other posts by me and Rob72). While response for things like calculating a new route is the same, the system is slower to see that I have turned the car into e.g. a driveway, and it sometimes thinks I am on a parallel road if there are several roads close to each other. Strange. Maybe I should see if that is also the case with the original disc... |

I always use Verbatim DVD's. Too bad that the DL versions are expensive....
In my experience, Verbatim works best and is (nearly) as fast as the original DVD. Burn at low speed, of course! |

I thought of creating a DVD5 with just speedcams and no other POIs for normal day-to-day use, swapping out for the "full" disc when I need something more. But what's the point when it all fits on a DVD9 and it just works anwyay? |

I have removed several of the useless (to me) POIs and got the image down to fit on single layer DVD. Reason I need to do this is that my Nav DVD doesn't seem to read DL discs well, if at all. Even Verbatim DL written at low speed. I am investigating whether a CIP software update will fix this (my car is a 535d, 2005 model with last update by BMW about 12-15 months ago under warranty). Does anybody know from release bulletins if DL was supported in more recent software? Unfortunately I don't have access to original DL map DVD to test.
Also, I saw somewhere that 2009-2 Prof has updated TMC information - no chance this will fix the lag between a traffic queues actually forming/clearing and my screen updating (I'm in the UK)? Would be good to be able to rely on the TMC data :-) |

How can i burn the speedcam's in the orginal 2009-2 disk?
Is there a guide how to do this? I replaced/copied the files in http://rapidshare.com/files/23441216...dcams.rar.html to a new DVD but all the PIO's aren't working, navigation map works fine. Maybe someone can tell me if the files are no good? Last edited by e90postjente; 05-29-2009 at 06:53 AM.. |

I just removed the pairs (Police Stations, Marinas, ATMs etc) in the Tables directory to reduce the size. I opened the ENG.LSC file to decide which ones to delete until the image would fit a single layer DVD. I guess I should remove them from ENG.LSC too, or just don't select those POIs... :-)
You still get to keep the main ones I use - Hotels, Restaurants, Petrol Stations, Parking etc. Hope this helps. |
