look for this post and part of the realoem.com because I do not want you to mislead

found:
the problem of the leaking chamber vent valve, its on the carbon-fiber plastic housing (part 1 - complete head cover)
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...40&hg=11&fg=15
Vent draws so. "left" air in the other side throws a little bit of oil, and computer changes the fuel mixture ratio which translates to higher combustion

my comp:

i didnt exactly understand what you wrote...
however of you have a lambda proble fault you will not have any warning light in the dashboard? usually the lambda when they have problem you get a fault code engine light up.

regarding the valvle cover which is made from carbon. i dont really understand what you said... however if i understood correct i dont seem to have any oil leakage from the head cover in engine

and from your board computer i see that you have 7,1 KM per liter... this makes around 460 KM with a full tank (65 litre) which makes almost 14 l/100 !!! you are having also a high fuel consumption in general...

Detox contact info?

I have the opportunity to buy a 320si with almost 60000km (37000miles) on it (still on its first engine).

But it has the problem with hard to start, vibrant idle, low power and so on.

Borrowed a Boroscope and had a look in the chambers
Cracks everywhere.
Cyl 1 and 4 had just 1 vertical. But in 2 and 3 it was all over the place, also horizontal going out from some of the verticals.
3 chips (about 5x5mm in size) were also missing from the liners.

A new engine is out of the question, since I can’t find any confirmation that BMW has fixed the problem?
So only option is the steel liners.

Anyone knows how to come in contact with "Detox"?
Or maybe "320si peach"? (Detox did a liner work for him)

Anyone know if Detox has connections to HTHowards engine specialist?
They are close to each other’s, so maybe the job was done there?

Just got confirmation that Detox used HTHoward for the machining work. (tnx Deniss)
Seems like Detox away abroad.

So if you have an engine that needs a liner change you can talk to HTHoward.

Also got tip from Deniss that one working with Detox can do the whole rebuild after the HTHoward machining.
I don't want to give out that info her, since I got it in a PM. But maybe Deniss want to?

Mail from HTHoward:

"The cost for fitting 4 cylinder liners to a bare/stripped block is £772 + 20% VAT."

-And I see that there are people that are satisfied with the work they did.

But I was after worth highly recommended a company her in Norway.
They looked at the pictures from HTHoward and said they know they can do a better work. They was not impressed and convinced by the kind of machines HT used.

So I decided to use the Norwegian company.
They would take £915 + 25% VAT for the same job.
By using the Norwegian company I also skip the Norwegian custom clearance hassle. And it’s easier regarding almost everything else from part shipment, communication, complaint issues etc.

Hi,

As a fellow norwegian, experiencing the same issues... I was wondering about the name of the company that you used to fit new sylinders in your block.

It's at Cylmo-Trondheim.
But look here first. It might be a issue with it.

Your engine outside warranty, and never been changed before?
I don't know if you can send IM here yet with only 1 post. But I'll sende you my Email, I'll like you to make contact.

I've been told by Bowker BMW that the fault with mine is linked to the Valvetronic system which could cost over £1000 to put right.

I thought this didn't have a Valvetronic system.

Please can anyone correct me on this

Timing Setting/Locking tool kit

Hi guys,

I have 320si which had 2 cylinders cracked. I ended up buying a new short block with pistons.

Now, it is time to adjust the camshaft timing, but I am not able to find the special tools to do it.

I have been assured that the tool kit for N45 B16 is also suitable for N45 B20, but it doesn't fit.

In the workshop manual says that special tool "11 0 490" is needed, but couldn't find anyone who sells it or rents it out.

Do any of you have an idea where I can buy this kit?

Thanks.

They definitely said Valvetronic and the guy at BMW was pretty adamant too!

Do we know what the cost of repair to the Vanos is?

Sounds from the description like the dreaded timing chain we are seeing and getting calls galore regarding them and have done 2 this week alone. Sadly it's all too common so common that a lot of dealers actually keep the parts on the shelf....ummmm I wonder why they is.

If you look at the above the car in question had full main dealer history, look carefully you'll see a bit of sludge here and there the servicing intervals on thus car were a good 20 months apart on average on the service booklet the car was a 06 plate car with from memory 71000 miles. In a nut shell issues shown partially down to oil spending way too long in the sump

What's the cost of repairing that? And what oil is recommended?

My car has been picked up by the independent dealer I purchased the car from and has left me A3 for the time being.
He has also given me 12 months warranty FOC and lifetime guarantee on any parts he replaces.

I should find out by next Wednesday what his mechanics have found as the culprit!

Part wise if it is chain guide related I doubt you'll need a chain they are fairly rare you'll be looking at new top & bottom guide various bolts a tensioner and some other odds and ends plus a new rocker cover gasket all in all roughly on parts of it looks the way I'm thinking around £160 worth of parts labour wise we get these done in around 8 hours or so(the official time is around 12 hours give or take) if it's guides we throroughly recommended an oil / filter service to regardless of what state the cars oil is in due to the fact that there could be fragments of plastic swimming around.
