BMW Dealer Cloth Wash?

Hey all,

So, like most, I NEVER take my car to any carwash. I had my car professionally detailed and sealed within a few months of owning it, and only hand wash it myself. The other day I took the car into the dealer (power steering pump issue). Finally when I was told that the car is ready, I was standing inside the main lobby, waiting. To my horror, I noticed that inside the dealership, there is a soft-cloth wash, and my car was going through it!

I spoke to the SA, and he said, "don't worry, it's ULTRA soft.....like ULTRA-ULTRA soft, I run my own cars through there..."

Given that it was BMW itself, I didn't make any issue about it, assuming that THEY would know best, right?

I still feel irked about it, and i'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts or opinions re: the car wash at the dealer.

Thanks!

Depends on the equipment/dealer... I'm like you, hand wash only now.

You should have told them not to wash it.

If you don't have scratches or swirls you are very lucky.

I usually tell them not to wash it - They're happy because it is one less car to wash, I'm happy because they're not washing my car. It works out well for the both of us. This is Long Beach BMW btw.

Man, I would NEVER EVER assume the dealer knows best ............ not in a million years. You're in a forum that I'm sure would back me up for the most part .... atleast I hope they would!

ya that's what i figured....it was my first trip to the dealer, and they didn't ask me if I wanted it washed or not, so i didn't find out until they ran it thru......

Anyways, will make sure to be more vigilant before hand and preemptively tell them to not wash......sheisse.....

But that's for the more enthusiast kinda car guys, right?
I mean when the dealer told me to handwash my car, I just looked at him and laughed. I am not THAT into the car, and don't have the time, or want to make the time to get all wet and icky and dirty. How bad can it REALLY be to just run your car though a wash once a week?

The dealer recommended a carwash (approved by dealer) right by my house to use. He told me not to use the do it yourself spray ones though.

I can't believe you guys wash your cars so much, it's cute though.

Maybe I'll hire a pack of hookers to lick it clean....

What's the proper terminology? Is it pack of hookers, flock of hookers, school of hookers?

Seriously though. What do you all do when it's 15 degrees outside. My hose has been disconnected for the winter already. Do you really wash your cars when it's that cold?

You HAVE to run them through a wash when it's that could out, right? Especially around here, there is so much salt and gushy stuff and film on the cars. They need to be washed, right?

But by hand? Outside? In the snow??
