335i Exhaust Mod (golf tee)

So,

After wanting the performance exhaust for a while and never pushing the button so to speak, I came across the golf tee mod.
Its super easy, just unplug the actuator valve connection in the boot.

Much has been written both correct and false on the US forum. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80661
(Dont read it all, completely repetitive and annoying!)

All I can say is that after having personally experienced it, the valve which opens the exhaust up to be louder and 4k is now open all the time.

This gives you a lovely muscle car type sound when pootling along at low revs.
If you are anything like me and find your self leaving it in gear to make a bit of noise this is for you!
It feels a tad free-er building from low revs, and the way the voice of the car stays constant as you build revs is excellent. It really does turn it into a meaner sounding motor.

HOWEVER

After a few longer trips after work when you just want peace and quiet this becomes a pain in the ear drum.
Que service station and a quick plug back in and you are back to reserved cruising.

Now this change over is so easy, but it has got me thinking.
Why can we not have this function built into the cabin via a switch, akin to a PSE (porsche sports exhaust) style system.
In theory it should not be hard to do.

Anyone have any ideas?

Garage List
Thanks for the heads up. I just pulled the plug on the actuator. Sounds lovely on start up with vapour coming from both end pipes. Always seems odd to me when you get behind a 335i and there is only vapour coming out of one pipe on those cold mornings!!

Can you do this the same on the 330i?

Are there are negative effects on 330i?

The 330i has only one box with two outlet pipes, from the vids I hear its not such a differance.

if you want some real nice noises, get a Bastuck quad - I love mine

+1 on this. Its very handy for when you are in the mood and a quick flick on the steering wheel buttons and its off if its starting to do your head in

Plus the JB4 will clear the fault code that gets logged when you unplug it manually. Code 2F6C if I remember correctly.

If you leave the cable connected and pull the hose off and block it - no codes.
Flap is shut by vacuum.

Hence the 'golf tee' mod being so popular

Has anyone got photos of what to do as I haven't got a clue. This won't knack up the car or warranty will it?

There's a link in the first post on how to do it. And no to both your questions.

A very popular mod amongst the 130i/135i fraternity, both with a single 'twin' pipe.

I just got my E90 330i yesterday, but seems that the two tail pipes are always opened.
my question is when exactly shall this valve be working?
