http://www.technologyreview.com/comp...037/?p1=A1&a=f

See the above link (click past the add) . It seems that all cars are vunerable.

How will insurance companies react to a car stolen without the keys.

Oh dear.

Glad I haven't got it

They can crack it even if it has encryption......

Think there will alot of calls on recall, otherwise lots or cars will be on a container ship bound for middle-east/Africa

I can see a market for some form of shielded key holder that would actually prevent this quite easily although you would have to get the key out of the holder in order to get in the car which kind of defeats the concept of key less entry.

Marvellous. That's about as clever at being able to steal a car by simply swapping over the ECU and associated key module. Coding? What @##!@! coding?!?!

Think you need to get with the programme lol.

This appears to be an 'extension' of the scenario when remote key fobs had been out for a while. If you unlocked your car from some distance ie. without walking right up to the car to unlock it with the remote key fob, then some scrote with a hand held scanning device could intercept the signal given by the remote key fob and gain entry to the car, but not start it unlike this situation!!

Que? What, like the imaginary keyless entry I have on mine?

Anyhow, this is pie in the sky stuff.

Why bother with all that when you can just bash the owner on the head and take they key? No PhD in whatever needed to do that!

Also, this hi tech method would still leave you unable to restart the car once away from the key... problem.

Don't think the they need the key once they have the broadcast message from the key, they can just replicate it from there hacking device.
