to pay ICBC bak or not
so i was rear-ended after a merge several months ago...and ICBC decided that i'm 75% at fault
i have till May to pay them bak...it's ~$1k repair, and i've already paid the $300 deductible when i got it fixed...meaning i need to pay another $400... does it worth paying or not if i'm plannin to move bak to hk? (i may also move bak to vancouver say 5-10 yrs from now tho)

how did they determine it was mostly your fault? were you not up to speed or did you hit the brakes? I thought that for more rear-enders, the liability was on the person who hits you....
as for paying ICBC back - if you don't pay them back, they will hound you. If you move back to HK, they may or may not choose to serve you with a payment order there but maybe some others here would know better. One thing is for sure, if you ever plan on living in Vancouver again and owning a car, you'll face a difficult time if you've got a black mark on your record for non-payment |

Yes, you should pay it, otherwise the rest of us poor saps will end up paying for your selfish irresponsibility.

I suggest you call ICBC and have them tell you how much the net increase in your premiums will be over time as a result of the claim. Then you can decide wether it's worth paying the $700 to settle the claim on your own.
My guess is that the increase in your premiums will likely be more than the $700...so probably best to pay it out. |
