You actually use more gas throwing it in neutral compared to just lifting off the throttle and coasting to a stop. Foot off gas = injectors shut off = no gas being used and engine braking slowing you down. Putting the car in neutral = gas being used to keep it at idle RPM, and it's just a generally unsafe thing to do in case of an emergency maneuver.

Turn on the instant MPG display in your dash, and watch it go to 99.9 every time you coast in D, with no throttle applied. The car is smart enough to not inject gas to the cylinders when coasting under no throttle.

I have a 6MT and I find it strange that I have to push in the clutch. It is very annoying when I leave the clutch out and come to a complete stop in gear. The car lurches and stalls. It scares the people both in front of me and behind me. Is there any possible way to bypass or am I just being stupid/weirdo?

I too had noticed this when doing work and maintenance on the car in the driveway. I thought it was odd but it doesn't effect me in any way. I was curious as to why you need a foot on the brake from N to D but I am sure it is some kind of safety? Kids in the car fucking around?
I don't like to flame but I honestly don't know why anyone would drop into N while driving, especially coming up to a red light. BMW to a Kia, no matter what the car is, that is a poor habit to get into. |

Dumbest thread I've read in a while. The car won't shift without you holding the break so you don't f up the transmission. Same way it won't shift if you try to rev up the car in manual and slam it into D.
If you want to rev it up at stoplights and/or launch like you're vin deisel in a 10 second car, switch to a manual transmission. And when you do, buy a racing clutch... Because an OEM clutch won't take your bs for long.
