When clearing the code make sure the key fob is in the slot and u have pushed the start/stop button WITHOUT pressing down on the brake. You should get a multitude of lights that turn on cluster. Then try to clear the code.

i would also replace the gas cap as this can cause the same error code. If you current cap has a green gasket its time to replace it anyway. $20.00 from Amazon or a number of dealers online.

After these 2 steps run the vehicle and see if the code comes back.
I did the ecu clear and it did remove the CEL, but soon as I turned the engine back on after driving to work it came right back.

I'm going to order the new gas cap, as mine is green. If that doesn't help I guess I'm going to try the purge valve?

My DTML was replaced under warranty last month under my CPO warning. Shorted out somehow? I also had a pretty bad water leak in my car.

I am having this issue too. Replaced the pump and still see codes even after clearing them. Did you get it resolved?

Weird, when I had some work done at BMW they told me the DMTL pump was bad and needed to be replaced, they showed me where it was throwing a fault code. But no lights or anything ever came up on the dash, so I have never replaced it, and since it has a useless function I probably never will.

Wire Chaffed through

Hopefully yours is an easy fix like mine was. SES light was on for about 6 months. I went to O'reilly's and borrowed their code scanner. Got the P2401, P2419 all three of the codes on this thread. I first disconnected the battery, then took off the lower drip pan on the driver's side rear wheel well, it was an 8mm for all of the hardware, and also removed the back driver's side wheel. It took me about 45 minutes to fix it. I used a razor blade to strip the wire down, and applied a vulgar amount of electrical tape to the repair so it wont chafe through again. SES light was still on after the repair, just have to get an OBDII scanner and erase the memory, problem is fixed! I got lucky that it was just a wire, if you've already changed your evap pump, you may want to go check that wire harness in the pictures I shared, if they look like they've been repaired you may have been ripped off!! Hopefully not though. Good luck!

2A17 Code

Other than the annoyance of the check engine light, it doesn't cause any damage if it's not taken care of does it? I may try the gas cap fix.

I was also going to try cleaning off the cap but the car at issue has 70k miles on it so it's certainly possible that the part has failed at this point. I'm wondering the same thing you are. If you've resolved your issue since your post please send me an update. One of my cars needs this replaced and I can't find a "credible" explanation of what exact purpose the part serves beyond the name. I'd like to think I would notice a serious leak and be able to avoid a catastrophic incident before it happened. I would prefer to avoid replacing this part but without more information I'm not sure of the risk. I don't exactly trust an indy shop to tell me anything other than it's something you should take care of. If I had access to a lift I'd have less of a problem paying for the part (since it's pretty cheap as far as replacement parts go) and doing the work myself. I just don't want to pay $150 or more for the labor if it's not serious.

After I had my hydraulic pump (got the Trifecta warnings) replaced, the indy shop reset this code too and all is still well. I did not have the DMTL replaced. Go figure.

P1449 means DMTL pump bad

I have a 2011 328i that had the "service engine soon" light on. The code was read twice as P1449-unreadable code. After searching in this forum and google searches I decide to replace the DMTL pump. It cost me $100 to buy it and $120 to put it on. The light went out immediately (my mechanic told me the light wasn't out and I should drive about 100 miles but as soon as I started the car the light was out and never came back). I passed a smog test 3 days later.

This forum was a big help to me, I usually never post stuff but I wanted to let you know it worked for me and I appreciate all the people who post their experiences and tips!

My mechanic told me it doesn't affect the engine at all. It's a smog thing, you're polluting more, that's it.

Have many folks had the DMTL pump replaced??

Did some Google searches, looks like BMW has had problems with the DMTL pump going back to 2001.
Had mine replaced under warranty.

Sorry to bring back this thread - but there isn't a lot of info on this DMTL issues online, and my the 1M forum has absolutely nothing. Anyway, I have a 1M and drove it for the first time in about 8 months starting last night. After driving it about an hour, I topped off the gas tank as I was taking a long ride today. I drove about 80 miles, parked for 2 hours, turned the car on and got the SES. Scanned the car and got P1449. For good measure I replaced the gas cap, and then decided to replaced the DMTL based on this forum. Besides the complete pain of pulling off the hoses, it went fine. I noticed that when I removed the connector from the old pump there was a few drops of fuel IN THE CONNECTOR. Is that normal? Perhaps fuel had dripped out from the other hose into it, but that seemed unlikely since that connected was held on so tight.

I dried it off, connected everything to the new pump, drove around for 25 minutes and no code (I did clear the code after finishing the replacement).
