AWBimmer - E92 Official Audio Upgrade
PIC HEAVY.. keep scrollin'
So hey! This is the OFFICIAL Audio upgrade thread as the other one (soon to be deleted by Mods) got out of hand shall we say First things first... I am going a balance of SQ and SPL so when you compare to the others, bear this in mind. Secondly, thank you to each and every individual who has helped so far in this...you know who you are Straight to the point folks.. Since MEGA 'called' me out in his thread, I figured I'd do the same and throw P 5UML in the Mix too just to make things interesting. Both of them are going for very decent systems.. no doubt.. but this... is about to go to another level I'm bringing it home baby!! The Goods - JBL MS-8 - Morel Hybrid Ovation II (1" & 4") - Jehnert XE200s Underseat (8") - JL HD 750/1 - JL 12w7AE-3 - JL Remote Bass Control - Hertz HDP4 (Now changed to JL HD 600/4) - Technic Harness - Custom Speaker Adaptors / Mounts - Full Boot Install with some extra's that I'm keeping secret - Silent Coat A couple of pics for the pic junkies .... Spot something?? Last edited by AWBimmer; 01-15-2013 at 06:13 PM.. |

Ah another Silent Coat user.. glad to hear it was a good product.. half the cost of Dynamat xtreme and the bulk pack silent coat should be more than adequate!
Heheh, no, it's a 12w7AE just in the larger box..that's all. Trust me, when it turned up at work today I wasn't able to open it. I had to wait from 10am to 7pm to check the sub itself..9 whole hours! Mob you know you said I need those pin connectors from BMW... are those the same ones in the 1st pic above (between the Crossovers).. they've got pin connections either side of the small wire.. |

So to enable plug and play (and reversible) you need these parts: 4 x 61130006664 - pin contacts attatched onto 18" wire 2 x 61138373583 - plugs Insert 2 of p/n 61130006664 to each plug and solder the other side onto the morel terminals. Just make sure you connect each -ive morel terminal in to the same side of each plug. These parts are for an E90 but im pretty sure we have the same wiring. Just double check when ordering the parts. |

Car Audio Direct.. will be getting it over the weekend me thinks! £79.99 from them directly or ebay too ... a bulk pack! Compared to Dynamat Xtreme at £150 ish... I've never used either so don't know what to expect but haven't heard bad things about either... It's effectively the same thing I hear but you're just paying for the brand with Dynamat...I'm sure MEGA will be along soon to give you his experience and thoughts on Dynamat as he had used it extensively in his previous E90.

Hey Mistryn, still not decided on wiring, I'll get my installer to get on the day as I’m not so clued up on that side of things.
Update: My Sub Box / Boot Build collected this weekend and now that's everything! I planned to do the front stage first but my installer said why do that when you do the whole lot in one hit so I decided to take his advice and the whole system will be done over the coming few weeks. Realistically, we’re looking mid November as that’s his earliest availability. I want to get this done ASAP as I have other plans which will need attending to after Xmas. The car will be transformed and completed by about May of next year. Looking back and thinking ahead, I never thought I’d spend this much – especially on a car which needs little introduction. I thoroughly look forward to the changes I’ve got planned and the finished article, but moreso, the Work In Progress and the Research along the way – this is the most fun part for me. The Mod Bug bit and it’s bit hard |

Update:
Now then, the Hertz HDP4 Amp has been sold, to welcome the JL 4 chn equivalent, JL HD 600/4. All the rest stays the same. Date for installation TBC but shouldn't be far now. Really pleased to have got the JL amps now Hertz HDP are such sexy little amps I’d have them any day of the week but given I bought the JL Sub and JL Monoblock, it only made sense to get the JL 4 ch equivalent. The race for SQ to SPL begins! |

Happy to have both found Sam the JL and also taken the HDP4 from him.
I am mighty tempted to get a second HDP4 so I can add yet more speakers. But there's probably a sensible reason to not do so. Probably.

Update 15th Jan
Sorry for the mixed up pics but not much to really say/see other than.. it should all be ready for me to collect this weekend and ... I am excited! It's been 2.5 months since I started procuring the equipment. Spent a fortune finding and buying the gear I was after and took advantage of when the installer gave me the go ahead to bring the car in last week. This weekend (19th Jan) will be the 2nd week and should be ready to collect. Reason for the delay is we're waiting for my rear coliver damping adjusters to come through the post. Since this is located in the heart of the boot, now was the only time we could install the rear adjusters unless I ripped everything out at a later stage, which let's face it... won't be happening one the finsihed article sits there looking proud. Anyways, nuff' of blabbering, onto the pics..again.. nothing great and the finished pics aren't with me so the progress thus far. Stage 1 - Morel Hybrid Ovation II Mids (using OEM speaker grill and custom made - Technic door adaptors, since the E92 have far less depth than E90s) and - Tweeters (using BMW sourced tweeter pods) - Technic Harness (OEM HU) Stage 2 - 8" Jehnert XE 200 underseats with custom spacers Stage 3 - JBL MS-8 (mounted on the left hand side of the Subwoofer (protected by clear perspex glass, carpeted and orange LEDs around it to give off a classy yet diff look. I'm not trying to impress any chavvys here but I'm going with an Orange / Silver theme - JL 12w7 in custom fabricated / fully carpeted boot build - JL HD 600/4 Amp - JL HD 750/1 Amp (both amps mounted on the left hand side inside the boot, screwed on a custom made MDF board. The pic showing both amps was only temporary so it will be nicely aligned before being fixated. The finished article will be perspex glass over both to obviously showcase the Amps, with a breaker made from MDF again going across the middle of the glass. The aim is to give it a nice class finish rather than one long piece of clear perspex being shown). - Orange LEDs around the Amps - Something different for the right hand side boot to follow in a couple of months. Watch this space Enjoy the pics, if possible. No Audio related, can anyone guess what could be in the box at the very end?? Sam Last edited by AWBimmer; 01-16-2013 at 04:12 AM.. |
