loose steering feel and vibration...

I've been having problem with vibration coming from the steering wheel since the day I got my car. I tried re-balancing the wheels, swapping wheels with different e90, etc. The vibration problem is never fixed and it is becoming more noticeable. So, I'm thinking the problem might be related to steering or loose suspension components.
I could feel bumps and vibrations coming from the steering wheel when making turns at any speed above 25mph. It is very noticeable when doing quick lane changes at highway speed and when turning the wheel under braking. Also the steering is very sensitve to bumps on the road. It would turn itself even when hitting smallest bumps. I couldn't let my hands off from the steering wheel at all. I had an e90 325i loaner before, and the steering felt normal with no bumps and vibrations.

Well, I went back to the dealership, and they said it's not the steering column. They suggested me to leave the car overnight, so the shop foreman can do an extensive test drive.
My guess is a bad lower control arm bushing, since I can feel more movement from the passenger side front wheel.

Im pretty sure that your right about it being caused by the control arms and bushings. My old e46's steering wheel started vibrating and shaking when i would brake from high speeds; turned out to be bad control arm and bushing

Let's hope that the control arm bushings on the E90 are more durable than on the E46. Perhaps the steering damper is not working right?

Update: I took my car to an alignment shop today and they found the inner tie rod has some plays. They also checked my alignment and it was slightly off. The shop didn't charge me anything and recommended me to take it back to the dealership. Now, I don't know how I'm going to convince my SA to have this look at, since he said everything felt okay to him.

bring it to another dealership...most of those yokos don't know a freaking golf ball from a piece of fish. No offense to you awesome ones out there.....but geez, the ping-pong ball brained ones do not know SHIT. Its a 50K car and if you are not happy, go elsewhere and find an SA that makes you feel comfortable.

Hi guys, I have the same issue on my M140i. Had it 2 months ago, balanced 3 times and no result, brought it back to the dealer and he said the rim was bent and fixed it. No issues until a week ago, same thing started happening again. Vibrations and loose wheel.
Any suggestions on what it could be?

This thread is from 2007 so probably best to start a new one.

Could be many things.
- Bent rim
- Bad tire balance or missing weight
- Bubbled or out of round tire
- Control arm bushings
- Super bad rotors
