OEM v Replica Wheels

Hi all,

What are your thoughts on the 219M gunmetal wheel compared to the 19" Avant Garde M359 Hyper Silver wheel on a Pre LCI Black Sapphire Metallic E90 335i with a Lemon Dakota interior?

Currently the car has the M193 wheels which I will keep, and while I have a spankers set of AG 359s ready to be fitted, my thoughts keep turning to the lighter, and probably stronger, 219M.

I'd be really keen to hear your collective thoughts on which would be a better proposition as a good looking, robust street wheel. The M359 Rep is no doubt a great looking wheel and suits the E90 shape well - the hyper silver really works with the black too, but there's something stealthy and cool about the 219M!

OEM every time. The 219/260 is a really nice wheel (made by BBS) and looks much better in the flesh than in pics. Just had my set refurbed in original BMW Ferric 1 grey to go onto my E90 M3, replacing the original 220's.

And being 18" you get the benefit of cheaper tyres and a more compliant ride.

I must say I really do like the look of the 219M - especially in a proper gunmetal finish. They also have the width and concave to remove that awful sunken effect that the standard rear set up suffers from.

Personally, I don't care for the 219Ms. They look a bit dated to me and I just generally don't like them so would put the AGs on for sure.

My only concern with the 359s is they're a little heavier than ideal and I guess there's always that concern about strength, but then they are stamped with JWL and VIA markings inside, so I guess that counts for something.

For me the weight of a wheel isn't a big issue, but quality is.

I'm sure AG's are fine, but as a layman I'm happier with wheels specified by BMW and made by BBS.

The 220's originally fitted to my car are forged which to me makes them technically superior but in the real world they're a pain in the ass... diamond cut and 19".

Look at the price of used AG's and 220's versus 219/260's. Tells a story.

All personal opinion of course.

I think the issue though is that there are also OEM wheels that crack as well, MV4s and 313s are a couple that come to mind. My battle is one of head over heart! the 359 replicas really do look great (probably better in the traditional sense than the 219Ms do) but there's always that nagging doubt......

Indeed the 219M really does have a very robust look to it which brings the peace of mind, and has the width to fill the arches nicely.

I'll second this. I recently relegated my standard 16in wheels (with 205/55-16 tyres) for some 18's with 235/40-18 front & 255/35-18 rear. I would say there is minimal difference between the ride quality on these compared to the 16's.

Well I ditched my OEM rims for the AG M359's. They look the part & I couldn't be happier.
