I can confirm that the optical input works flawlessly with the Airport Express for AirPlay, unlike the Cambridge DAC I tried a year ago that didn't like the crappy clock timing of the Airport Express. =)

Any chance you'll be able to see how it likes audio resolution changes from song to song, any clicking or popping? I know its not really a concern using the AE but figured I'd ask.

The distortion caused by the filter components will be eliminated as they are incorporated into the feedback loop

So what are the first impressions?
Does it live upto it's specs and do you think it can handle the under-seat woofers? Out of curiosity, what is the fuse rating on the thing?

i hear more detail than i did with my Helix A4 amp, but i am also using optical into the P-Six instead of Analog like i was from the Airport Express with the A4.
it definitely lives up to the specs. can it handle the underseats? well, i have 4-6 1/2" jehnert midbasses on channel 5 and 6 for a total of 8, and it BOOMS (no sub currently, so i am playing them down to 30Hz). 25x3 for a class D, so you know the power is there.

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/4zlehdsxt...xCtROZUea?dl=0 If you get around to it and have a way to plug into the optical with something that can play them, it would be great to get confirmation that everything behaves like it should/there's no surprises before I pull the trigger on one of these. If flac doesn't work for you I can transcode to whatever is better suited. |

My limited research has led me to believe that any new Android device is capable of PCM audio output of up to 24/96 over USB OTG so as to make them compatible with most USB DACs and headphone amps. Unfortunately, the biggest reason I want the high res. capability is so I don't have to convert my entire library to redbook to have it in my car, so a phone/tablet pretty much leaves me where I am now storage-wise. I don't want to just go the external DAC route b/c going digital->analog->digital->processing->analog seems completely counterproductive if I can feed the processor directly with a digital source, especially if the processor isn't decimating the higher res source material pre-processing. I feel like it was someone here that I saw, and maybe even with Don's help, that is using a Raspberry Pi and external HDD as an in-car music server that was able to play back high res PCM and also DSD files...but I have zero experience with the RP platform. So yeah I'm basically still at the drawing board, but trying to future-proof as much as possible now so when I figure it out I don't have to throw it all away and start from scratch. Yeah I checked that out recently. Its certainly the best manufactured option I've come across. The main hang up for me is the somewhat limited lossless codec support, only FLAC and WAV apparently. I have a lot of ALAC, wavpack, and aiff, and its also unclear if the app supports .cue sheet playback. I know it sounds like I'm being super picky, but when I think about the amount of time I'd spend digging through every album in my library to determine compatibility, then transcoding and/or resampling when necessary, it makes more sense to me to hold out and spend the time figuring out a true solution and then not have to worry about it for a while. |

Not picky at all, the product doesn't meet your needs. Luckily for me, most of my lossless is FLAC and some WAV.
Have you considered going the Pure i20 route?
