330i maintenance = yuk

Just spent the saturday doing some maintenance on my car. I did the oil change, then the micro filter change, then the air filter change. There were all sort of debris in the air filter chamber. Have a look. Ok I still need to reset the indicator.

I am at 57K miles so I have a brake flush coming up...Anyone know where I can drain the brake fluid on an e90 330i 06? Thanks.

tex

Hi,

For brake fluid changes, the fluid must be bled out at each caliper, using the bleed screw. On my E34 I had a modified reservoir cap that I hooked up to my air compressor at around 3 psi, allowing me to simply crack open each bleed screw one at a time. Of course, you must add fluid to keep the reservoir from going dry.

I've read that with some ABS systems, a special technique is required to exercise the ABS pump as that fluid doesn't come out otherwise. I don't know if that applies to the E9x or not. If it does, it's another dealer-only service.

Regards,
Adnan

Yes it is a joke, but what other car in the US offer free maintenance?

I do have to keep my eye on this micro filter. I think it is the reason why I have had this frog in my throat and coughing and allergies for 2 recent straight months.

As for brake fluid flush, look like a trip to the dealer since several folks have mentioned I have to bleed the fluid out of each brake caliper.

how do you figure its wasting money? what better protection is there for your engine than clean oil? do you see what all the oil looks like after 15k or even 7500 mile oil changes? it looks nasty...

You are not getting any better protection, and you cannot judge oil by how it looks, it will look like that after 2000 miles as well thats a myth.

You are wasting money because synthetics do not break down like conventional oils so while I dont recommend going to 15000 miles 7500 is more then early enough. At 3500 you are spending double the amount of money and not gaining any protection.

I have been doing this for a long time, along with oil analysis's along the way to prove that the oil is in very good condition even after a 7500 mile change.

The picture in my signature is what an engine looks like after the valve covers were removed on a 170,000 mile car with anywhere from 7500-10000 mile oil changes.

It was SPOTLESS. That car (which I still own btw) will still get over 30mpg on the highway and runs without a hiccup.

The only people I suggest changing that early are people who are frequently at the track and have oil temps in the upper end of the scale for extended periods of time.

Your right it cant do any harm to change it that early but it sure is a waste of hard earned cash.
