I've seen this asked a few times in different ways, so here's yet another answer for anyone so inclined to digest: Actual mileage over 2,653km and 3 days, nearly 900km/day, highway driving at reasonable cruise-controlled speeds, from St.John's, Newfoundland to Ottawa, Ontario, driver was solo, no load, brand new Touranza EL42's for rubber. Note however I also made several timed and GPS based verifications of the speedo and it is running about 4%-6% fast (as many others have observed), which may cause the odo to similarly increase fast (?)..I didn't check that. If it does, that would mean I drove fewer km's which means even worse mileage by the same ratio. Hopefully the speedo doesn't use the same gears as the odo!

I used 259.867 Litres (68.65 Gallons)
Which cost me $352 CAD ($352 USD.. )
Which gives an average of 9.8 L/100km (24 mpg)

For what it's worth, there you have it.
Not super great results, but that's what I got.

FWIW, I get 24.5 mpg overall (ca. 9.5l/100km) with my FWD MT wagon and for highway cruising, I generally average 28 to 31 mpg (ca. 8.5~7.5l/100km).

The odometer is separate from the speedometer and I have generally found BMW's odos to be spot on.

Even though the speedo is fast, the odometer should be right on the money.

I'm surprised you got such poor mileage on the highway with your 328i. I was getting 8.0 l/100km on the highway with my 335i sedan. With a tailwind it bumped up to 7.5 l/100km.

I have only been on the highway a couple of times with it. Next time I'll try to get some more exact numbers.

FWD BMW doesn't have FWD . Its either RWD or AWD.

The BMW speedometer read 3 to 5% fast by design.
The coding board guys can enable actual digital speed as and option.
The speed error is a Euro requirement.

My gas milage is 17 to 18 in town.
I can get 30 on a drive in the flats on the highway with low traffic.
Tahoe and back which is faily mixed highway driving with significant hills about 25 to 26 mpgs

I did Ottawa to NYC back to Ottawa and I got about the same in my 2011 E91 xdrive 328i.

9.8l/100km, going about 75mph on the highway, very little city driving. The car is gas guzzler big time, but I love my car anyway

My speedo is also fast by about 8%, I had the dealer check it and they said it's normal ..

When city driving/trafic I rarely get better than 13l/100km and I coast of hell of alot and practice eco driving.. The mileage needle isn't all that accurate.. sometime I'm clearly coasting in idle and needle moves all the way up to 17l/100km before sliding all the way back to 3-4l/100km..

I use my car mostly on the highway so ~10l/km is reasonable considering I'm always hauling stuff 200-400km each time.

So far, my avg (80/20) is 29mpg ( about 8.1L/100km ) which for an AWD is pretty good imho

My e91 auto x drive does 24.7 between city and highway (20/80), this with a BMS powerbox. Before i got 24.0. I just took a 250 mile trip from VA to the outerbanks and got exactly 27mpg mostly doing 70mph.

I upgraded from the 205-16s to 225-17s and noticed my mpg dropped by about .5mpg. When i changed out all of the tranny, diff, transfer and engine oil fluids to all synthetic, i noticed a slight improvement in mpg by about 0.5mpg.

Did a 511km (317mi) highway run yesterday at NON eco-friendly speeds/acceleration (passing and merging was always to the floor, for fun and effect), although 90% was cruise-controlled at 124kmh (77mph), my personal maximum "radar safe" speed.

SET A NEW RECORD - 8.3L/100km's (28 mpg) as measured by full-tank to full-tank actual odo mileage!! Wow.

The only change from an average of 9.7L/100km (24 mpg) over a solid 2,300km of strictly eco-concious careful 100% highway-only cruising at about 105kmh (65 mph) was: I swapped my runflats for winter non-rft's. Yesterday was my first long-run highway drive since doing so - City mileage isn't a fair comparison of course.

I saw someone else post about their runflats dragging them down - well this is my first evidence of same (and on WINTER's, no less!), I will be watching it very closely over the winter to see if this was a fluke (tail wind? downhill all the way...? ha) or a new consistently lower fuel consumption.
