rear PDC retrofit install question

There are a bunch of PDC retrofit threads on here, and although there's a front PDC retrofit DIY there's no rear PDC DIY and no actual install info on rear PDC that I can find. I'll make a DIY if I can get this part figured out:

For the fuse box connections, the instructions say:

My car's a 2011, but my fuse box looks like the "built before 3/07" box:

Okay, no big deal, I'll just follow the instructions for the pre 3/07 cars, but my PIN 8 is taken (that's 1-5 on the bottom, 6-10 in the middle):

My fuse box doesn't have a 10-pin plug like on the other diagram. Anyone ever installed rear PDC before and know what's going on?

Thanks

Ah, found my answer on a version of these instructions for E92/3s (mine are for E90/1s):

If PIN 8 is already occupied, disconnect socket
contact from branch B1 and with miniature
connector M connect to existing cable.

I got an entire retrofit kit from here: bimmer-tech.net. The OEM installation instructions for the rear retrofit kit does not show any part number for the control unit and if it happens to be printed on the unit - I've already installed it in the car. 2011 E90 M3 production code PM93.

How was the install? Relatively straight forward?

Yeah, it's strait forward. I was going to make a DIY but I didn't take any pictures and it's strait forward enough that I'd imagine anyone attempting it should be technical enough to get it done. The only part that had me scratching my head when I was reading the instructions in advance was this step:

Seemed to me they want you to locate the OR/GR and GN wires in the wiring harness and splice into them (if that's the case I would think the picture should show a 3rd wire coming out of each "miniature connector)... but, yep, that's exactly what you need to do. I thought it would be next to impossible to find those wires on the harness, but it didn't take me too long to locate them. I undid the harness at the red part I circled, found the wires and used the "miniature connectors" to splice into them. I didn't even have to code my car - I don't have iDrive and my rear speakers do the beeping.

Hi,

I am doing the Front and Rear PDC modification and was wondering if you can guide me on how you run the wiring from the PDC control unit to the glove box area. This what i did so far
1. Removed the back seat
2. Removed the side finisher right bolster
3. Removed the inner passenger sil
4. Removed the kick panel underneath glovebox

It seems like I need to remove the carpeting to run the wire underneath so if that is the case I have to remove the passenger seat and the Lateral trim panel front right

Thanks

That's all you need to remove. Grab the carpet in the upper right hand corner of the passenger foot well (where the kick panel was) and pull back/diagonally towards the center of the car. The entire section of carpet and sound insulation will pull back with it exposing everything you need. It's really thick so it's hard to pull back. I was only able to pull it back less than a foot from the corner - it's a tight squeeze but it was enough room to run the wires and tap into the wiring harness.
As for running the wiring from the trunk to the fuse box, removing the rear seat and side sils are enough for that. You can then snake the wire under the bottom of the B pillar trim.

Do the connections along the bottom (in the picture) of your fuse box have 15 pins instead of 10? If so, use the diagram for "cars built before 3/07"

That's the fuse box. It's behind the glove box. You need to remove the entire glove box. Removing the glove box isn't hard, but removing the fuse box was hard for me. It has 4 screws. If your car is like mine, the screw in the upper left-hand corner is blocked. I needed to put a torx bit on a "wobble" with an extension to remove it.

Thank you, I will try tomorrow and see if I can remove the fuse box so I can do the wiring of the rear PDC.........I guess I didnt need to route them through the firewall (what a waste of time). I will need to remove the ECU again to pull the rear PDC wiring back into the car and connect them to the fuse box.

Ouch, didn't you have some actual instructions? Here are the two OEM guides I had:
E90 PDC Retrofit
E92&E93 PDC Retrofit

Thanks for sharing the instructions, but I cant understand some of them not clear. Like the front PDC wiring, I cant understand how to run it under the hood.

I took the glove box off that wasnt bad. I am still trying to figure out how to get the fuse box off so I can finish the rear PDC connection.

Remove the 2 connectors circled in yellow (they have a large tab you slide sideways to disconnect). Remove the 4 screws approximately located at the locations circled in red. The one in the upper left hand-corner is a major PITA 'cause it's blocked by that piece of metal. You still then need to pull the fuse box toward you with a bit of force as it's also held by friction clips. I did not do front PDC yet but I want to in the future.

thanks DavidZ, i will do what you suggested in removing the fuse box and figure out how to remove the upper left screw......

I am also working at the front PDC. The only thing preventing me from finishing the front PDC is how to route the wiring under the hood i.e. from the ECU box to the front pdc sensors. Right now the wire is on top of the ECU box preventing me from being able to put the top on it and runnning over the engine etc to the front of the bumper, which also prevents me from closing the hood........I googled around and couldnt find good pictures of how people who did these mods are routing the wiring......I am trying to take picture as I go along to help others who plan do this mod

Thanks again

DavidZ, I have a question regarding the screws on the right side. Do I remove the right top screw you circled (silver in color), the screw doesnt seem to be holding anything or is their a screw hidden behind that screw. Also the right bottom screw which one do I remove the front one or the one at the back.
I am still trying to figure out how to remove the left screws you are right they are a PITA

Assuming I figure out and remove all the four correct screws, I pull the fuse box forward towards me and should come off

Thanks

From what I remember of my fuse box, yours looks different than mine, but maybe the screws are in the same place. They're definitely the furthest-out screws. This is evident in the picture of my removed box - you can see 3 of the locations from behind, circled in blue, so maybe you can figure out which are the proper ones:

DavidZ,

Please can you share a picture of the tool you used to remove the screws on the left side they are a PITA. I went to Sears and Autozone and couldnt find anything that I thought will be worth using. I have a flexible socket extension but it is for sockets

Thanks

DavidZ,

I am looking closely at the picture you have and it seems that you took out the whole glovebox which seems like gave you more room to work around. I only removed kick panel and the glovebox door. Maybe I need to somehow remove the whole glovebox and then I will have more room to work around.

I'll take a picture of the tools I used tonight.
