a quick question about the stock DV

do the stock DVs make any sound when you lift off the gas under boost?

recently, i notice when i do a few WOT and once i lift off the gas (mostly 1-3 gear), i can hear a slightly pressure release sound like a bov, but not loud. when my window is up, i won't hear it.

is that normal?

ps. i am running stock intake box with bms filter

if you stand outside the car and rev it to about 5000 youll hear it, remember it is a blow off valve thats recirculated back into the intake.

well, it's more like once i hit peak boost and lift off the gas right away, yes i do if im driving with window down at slow speed regardless of 3000 or 5000 rpm (~30mph before wind noise kicks in).

Regardless, its nothing to worry about as long as it sounds like a whoosh muffled by a pillow... lol.

cool, thanks!
i was debating if i should go to forge DV, but im guessing as long as im not running too much boost, ie ~14psi, stock DV should hold up, right?

reviving an old thread because i have the same question on this topic and dont want to start a new one...

I just installed the jb4 g5 iso with bms dci and I've noticed that now when i build up boost and lift off the trottle it sounds like i have a blow off valve..like the release of air is freakin loud! I even found myself double checking to make sure there wasn't a bov installed by the previous owner..there wasn't (i bought the car only a few months ago). So i guess my question is how loud can the stock diverter get??? Is this normal? and should i be worried? I LOVE the sound it makes though..but is it bad for my car in the long run?

Running jb4 and dci on map 5 with currently 100 octane..but tanks almost empty so probably 91/e85 mix

Using the boost on gas hijack and over/under-boost on oil i've noticed I can make that noise at 7+psi (i think i top out around 14ish psi) and i've noticed my car is overboostin when i first press down on the pedal but it eventually seems to correct itself higher up in the revs.

I'm in stock dv's hitting anywhere from 18 to 20 psi depending on my additive and fuel and there holding up fine..... And I hear that release sound from time to time.

Guys, make this proper, go get a charge pipe and Forge DVs and forget about leaks forever. I'm telling you, it gets old.

oh i will eventually get a charge pipe and all that..i just got this car so im going through the mods slowly..so far i've just done the first mod - jb4 iso and dci. I'm just wondering if the stock dv's can be loud to the point where they almost sounds like a bov. i can push the throttle down in 2nd, 3rd or 4th, hear the boost build up, and when i let go of the throttle it sounds like i have a blow off valve. i just wanted to know if that was normal? its so loud idk if i even need to spend money to get a bov like i was originally planning. i dont think i have any leaks

If you have no leaks then stick with your stock DV. They are loud and provide a nice "sneeze". This is all muffled by your engine cowl. If you take that out and install DCI, your stock DV will be just as loud as a BOV. You may actually love the sound after you take off your engine cowl. Its addicting (only for dry days)

No Performance gains with charge pipe or BOV, just sounds better and prevent leaks better.

i guess i never did an update on it. i had the problem solved, it was because the stock DV popped. but anyhow, i replaced them with ER CP and Forge DV. it's been great but now once awhile i have another weird sound. when doing WOT or hitting peak boost, i do hear a sound like "when you take a deep breath, and release it slowly" kinda sound. i do not hear it all the time, it just appears when it likes to. i triple checked all my boost piping and all are tightened. car is not losing power or anything. just can't figure out what is that. it's annoying when i am driving next to a wall, the sound bounce off and its super clear. i recalled i started hearing it not too long after i got quad tips, 2nd kitty delete. i checked and there's no exhaust leak either. this driving me nuts...
