Cobb stage 1+ fmic
I'm running Cobb stage 1 aggressive right now but I'm leaning towards a fmic (helix or ets 5") to run stage 1+ fmic aggressive. Would love some feedback from you all that have made this jump. Is it a significant difference? Worth it? What were some of your impressions? Your input is greatly appreciated!

I had my intercooler on before the 1+ maps were released. I felt a slight increase that was some what noticeable. After I switched to the 1+ map when released, it was a jump in power and throttle response for me. Also, depending on how you drive and the climate you're in, it's very beneficial. I recommend it for anything running more than stock boost honestly (even though not having one on stage 1 is safe).

An aftermarket FMIC is a very worth while upgrade, especially when you consider how tiny, inefficient & susceptible to the OEM core is to heatsoak. If you live somewhere that's hot/humid year round (FL, AZ, etc) an FMIC should be a priority on your shopping list.
NOW assuming that b/c you're running the COBB tune that running meth isn't something you're interested in, the Helix Stepped IC is #1 (my $.02). It's been run on some very high HP N54s, including Terry (BMS) + Shiv (Vishnu) cars at one point. In addition to the Helix, the ER, ETS & AA 5" cores all do exactly what they're marketed to do and will require minimum trimming for the very best fitment. You can't really go wrong with any of them, but they each perform a little differently from each other (IAT reduction, pressure drops, etc). |

Check out my step by step dyno sheets. These dyno sheets show the HP gain of each mod.

I think an FMIC is a great idea especially on this car. Stage 1+ btw is superior in performance to stage2 (without the +). and Stage2+ isn;t that superior to Stage1+
Fmic makes a huge difference and is a great mod. Making sure IATs are consistent throughout a pull is very important. I went with ETS 7". Their 5" is also great and requires no cutting. My IATs are flat throughout a run. Great intercooler and great prices too!

I went Cobb stage1 and then installed ETS 5" to go Stage1+ and the biggest difference to me was throttle response. Sure you get more power, especially top end and you will last longer on track style driving or multiple high speed pulls with IC.
If it is worth it? For me Yes! If you go tuned at all you should probably switch IC on this car. Installation of ETS IC I made myself and it was quite easy to do with regular tools. |

I had my helix fmic before the stage 1+ map came out, but when it was released I noticed a huge power bump! Definitely worth it

A little trimming is necessary for ideal fitment with any & all FMICs. My Helix could've fit with out any trimming, but the inside of the front bumper would've rubbed on the face of the core & bent fins over time. The mechanic who did the install asked beforehand, but we agreed to dremel out about ~1" so everything sit flush w/ no rubbing. Best part is you have no idea anything was trimmed unless you remove the underbody shield

I just installed the AP for the first time....used Stage 1+ Sport, took it out and wow what a difference over stock. Awesome power, it might scare the hell out of my wife though!
I have the Wagner IC installed. |

I just installed a Wagner intercooler and the Stage 1+ map and like others have said, there is definitely a increase in throttle response, but I didn't feel that the power difference was that significant. It could be that the weather here has been too hot to really judge, so ill reserve finally judgement for the fall when temps come down.
Edit: when I say the difference wasn't significant, I'm comparing this to Cobb Stage 1 on a 1M which is already pretty aggressively tuned from the factory so the gains aren't comparable to a 335/135

Great choice going with Helix. I just installed it in my second 335 last night with my new Mtech bumper and it fits perfect. It was much easier installing this time with the bumper removed. No cutting or modding needed and no rubbing whatsoever. Awesome performance.
