well "best" is subjective and you will see different views here reflecting the different experiences, and there are many good soaps out there.

I have had good results with the Pinnacle line. Each brand will have directions on the bottle on how much to mix per gallon.

good luck

There are hundreds of shampoos.

Depends what your goal is. Some shampoos are for stripping previously applied waxes and sealants off of the car to start fresh for claying or decontaminating and polishing. Others are safe for wax and will not strip it off.

The amount of shampoo is relative to your goals for it. A stripping shampoo can be as much as 1 oz per gallon. A gentle shampoo can be as light as 1 oz for 5 gallons.

Personally, I like Chemical Guys citrus wash for stripping and Chemical Guys Pink or citrus wash and gloss or glossworkz for gentle shampoos. They're cheap in gallon sizes and work very well.

I second the CG washes in Gallon sizes. I use Citrus for stripping washes and either Maxi Suds or Wash & Gloss for regular washes on all cars. Maxi suds is under $15 for a gallon. Also if you can find Duragloss wash is cheap and works well. I try and buy OTC if I can and have a CG store close so that helps, DuraGloss can be found at some Napa stores.

I use Zaino Z-7 car wash, and afterwards go over the car with Z-6. It really maintains the shine between applications of wax, and I love the way that my car looks. You should give Zaino products a try, but be prepared to drop a fair bit of cash (I spent $140 when I got my first starter kit) when you first start out. However, your supplies will last awhile, and your car will look better than ever!

If you don't want to spend that much, Meguiar's Ultimate Wash & Wax is killer stuff that you can get pretty much anywhere.

+1 gonna have to research see what catches your eye.. so many and so many opinions.. You will settle on a type and brand once you have tried a few..

Certain things to look for is as mentioned, stripping soaps, or a maintenance wash soap which is ph balanced and wont strip off protection.
