I have a 2009 320D. Bought it when it did 60K on the clock. Now it has hit 80K and I change the oil every 8K. Runs sweet as ever. I have confidence it could go well into doing 200K as long as you are changing the engine oil frequently.

As an update to this thread: my cars now on 191k. Since my last post the crankshaft pulley broke - while on Skye of all places! They can fail whenever and they don't give any warning. Got a new one put on and when I got home I changed the belt, tensioner and a couple of other pulleys.

Got a bit fleeced on the crankshaft pulley. Ended up paying £300 inc labour - however I was a captive market and pretty much unable to have taken the car anywhere else. The idiots also put the same fan belt on and they put it on inside out!!!

Changed the belt at home (Cost about 40ish if I remember) but that didn't cure the horrible noise. Cost about £170 for all the other parts IIRC - that also included a few pulley caps which were 'missing'! 95% of the noise abated after the parts were changed and the rest of the noise has now gone completely! I guess the new parts were bedding in

Although to be fair, 115k of that happened in it's first 3 years looking at service history.

2010 320d efficient dynamics here, 132,000 miles. Regular oil changes are key as stated above. Mine is running approx 207bhp at the moment instead of the standard 163bhp, and the power really suits it! Fantastic car!

Had a 1er 118d N47 for 5 years, took that to 170k now got 2012 E91 N47 on 85k oil changes are the key.

I also added some Lucas oil stabiliser additive every so often, this really does quiten down the chain noise most people hear.

My mechanic swears by it for these engines, worth a try if you don't like hearing the chain noise, which is normal.

These engines get a bad rep online, but I see many taxi drivers using these engines now. 5series, and 3series, so they can't be failing or that unreliable.

Good going, but yours is the older M47 engine, not the N47.

That things amazing, it's in the E46 which my brother still has after being passed around the family, must be on 250K miles by now. Came into the family with only 13K miles on it.
