recommended tire pressure (17"-winter)

Just mounted my winter wheel setup which is BMW style 285 rims with Dunlop WinterSport 3D 225/45/17 tires non-RFT and the first think i noticed was how soft and comfortable the ride was, switching from 18" RFT to 17" non-RFT make a huge difference!

Anyway, the problem is that i don't know what tire pressure to use for this setup, any ideas?

You need to up the pressures a little from the standard 17" recommendations, as the winter tyres are considerably softer with more flex in the sidewalls. Having not run 17" wheels before on our cars, I can't really give any suggestion, although it might say on the tyre pressure plate on the inside of the driver's door ??

I was going to say post this on the US tyre section but you already have.

(PS Tony, what would you run 235/40/18 & 265/35/18 Goodyear F1s Assymmetrics pressure wise? )

oooh. don't know that either off hand, as I haven't used 18s... I would suggest 1-2psi above what BMW recommends for your car with two people and luggage (so not fully loaded).. Again, the F1s have softer sidewalls than RFTs so you need to compensate a little for the additional flex.

Seeing as you know most things BMW I will forgive you on this occasion.

I have them at 40 front and 42 back, seems good to me. I went up a size as you suggested a-la Alpina. I might go look over on their forum.

Most of the D3/B3s came with 19" wheels in this country - using 2.6/2.7 bar front/rear (or 37.7 and 39.2psi respectively)

Tony, I'm glad you didn't say 263.45/273.58 KPa. I'd be tearing out my hair.

Yes Andrei, I agree, that looks strange...

The best thing to do is experiment with different pressures and see what feels the best
