AST Owners: Frequent Rebuilds?
I've been talking to my AutoX and track buddies in the local BMW club and asking them for recommendations for coilover kits. I've been looking at the AST coilovers with Swift springs and possibly Koni coilovers.
The moment I mentioned AST, almost everyone in the group started boo-ing at AST. As it turns out, most of the drivers who owned AST coilovers have went through multiple failures and had their shocks rebuild multiple times, at least once per season. The other thing is that AST does not include free rebuilds in their warranty so this means spending more money and time after the purchase. Now, granted, most of them own E36 and E46 cars so its not really comparing products for the same platforms, but all those negative experiences from people I trust, lead me to change my perception of AST quality and longevity. What's your experience with AST coilovers? How many miles on your AST kits? How often (if any) have you had problems with AST? Your input is highly appreciated as I am finalizing on my choice of coilovers. Thanks in advance.

some of the higher end coilovers do require rebuilds more often - especially if you street drive them. It's the nature of the beast, though it may be model dependent.
Your best bet is to talk to harold at HPAutowerks (they sell AST), and he'll be able to tell if this is an issue with the models they sell, and if you might be better off with another brand/setup. |

I've had AST 4100s for almost 10 mos / 7000 miles with no problems. Been happy with them so far!

You should know this better just by looking at your warranty claims and returns for specific models.
Speaking of which: does TC Kline offer warranty and how long is it? Your web site does not say anything about warranty on the coilovers which is rather suspicious!
