Any issues so far for those who have installed the plates? Except, of course, for the usual codes.

So far so good. One item that I have noted, if your car is idling and you reset the error codes, you get a change in idle tone a little. I am not sure what this is attributable to, but perhaps throwing a code affects something else in the system.

Only issue so far is the better mileage.

Having had my EGR cleaned back in March, when I pulled the EGR and Throttle plate last week, there is already buildup starting all over again. The coating is hard and feels like rough sandpaper. Thankfully that is as much as it will get.

as long as it does not end up in the intake manifold you should be OK with the build up.

That buildup is all the way through the intake manifold and I suspect right to the valve.

So far at this point it has not affected mileage enough to notice.

I plan to clean the manifold if removal is easy enough.

I do, but I may get bored on the weekend so I may just pull the manifold off and clean it.

Garage List
Definitely need a set of these. I pulled my EGR for cleaning today...about to pull the intake manifold as well based on what I'm seeing. I'd hate to dirty up any work I do cleaning everything.

But now thinking about it some more and could be a potential yes. What if you took off your OEM EGR but still had it connected to the harness and zip tied down some where (i know, it would look redneck) in engine compartment. Next put this or equivalent onto engine. I've seen another make of the same thing which is a dummy look alike EGR body.

Personally, using block off kit would be more stealthy as the extra EGR would stick out like a sore thumb.

good point. Does it also mean no SES light (no coding needed) since everything is still connected ?

NO. This will not avoid the SES light.

When the EGR is blocked off but still connected to the harness, the car will pull more air through the MAF than expected to keep the engine running correctly. This increased air flow across the MAF will correlate to EGR plausibility codes and the dreaded SES light.

Mark M, I meant if your EGR were coded out, removed from engine, but still connected to harness and dummy unit in air flow path.

On a semi related note, I SCORED A JUNK EGR COOLER FROM DEALER MECHANIC FOR $25. I can proceed with cutting ends off and use standard block off kit. I will post some pics before and after cutting. Hehehe

I had left my phone number with him if they did a warranty replacement. It took about 3 weeks but finally happened. He told me to let him know if I needed anything else that he would normally throw away. He says he doesn't have to send it back in. He even gave me box new one came in. Part number doesn't match mine but physical body is identical. It came from 2009 X5D
