Do your mp3 songs show up on the AUX?

Just wondering if I am missing something here. When I plug my Ipod into the auxillary I can only adjust the volume from the steering wheel. It doesn't allow me to change tracks nor can I see what song is playing on the stereo display.

Is this normal?

Yes. Auxilary input jack is only to just directly transfer the sound from your ipod to your car. You can think of it as using a cable to turn your car into a speaker with a volume dial. In order to use the ipod functionality with your stereo, you need the ipod/usb adapter

When they say you need the iPod adapter it's the one that costs about $300. I personally like to control my music via the iPhone instead of the car buttons. Much easier. Because with the adapter you can't use the phone at all. (from what I've read). So I decided to keep it as now and being able to use for example pandora radio or other aps that play music.

Not true. The phone should work just fine through bluetooth whether or not you have the 6FL cable/adapter. You can't stream music through bluetooth directly to the car (without another aftermarket device) on older cars...although it's supposedly the case that 2011 cars will start supporting this.

If you want to play the iPod through the AUX, control it on its native interface, and also charge your iPhone/pod you can get something like this:
