So you would go softer in the front than the original springs? Why?

BTW, the OP lists the spring rates as backwards. This kit is 60 N/mm (~343#) in the front and 70 N/mm (~400#) in the rear, not the other way around.
Also, I spent about 15 or 20 minutes on the phone with Jeff from Öhlins USA, and he really cautioned against a knee-jerk upgrade of spring rates. He insisted that the kit had been thoroughly R&D'ed and the chosen spring rates had everything to do with the valving of the dampers as well as their unique DFV technology. He also suggested not to increase spring rates by >30% over stock without revalving. YMMV, just putting out what I heard. Personally, I'm going to try the stock springs first, play with settings a bit, and see how it feels in daily driving as well as on the track.

I've been running the Ohlins with Swift 336F / 672R for a few weeks and am pleased with the combination.. Mostly daily driving and one solid run on mountain roads to date. Comfort level is great and the composure / balance is significantly improved. Currently running damping at half for front and rear but will continue to experiment.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but to this date Ohlins persists that they have never heard of the issue.
Nobody could explain to me why the M3 would use 700lbs springs, while the car itself is just as heavy as my car which gets the 400lbs springs supplied with the kit. I tried the supplied springs first and now I'll see if my own choice (400 front / 700 rear) works better. I went with Eibach springs, still not sure whether to use thrust sheets or not. |

Keep us informed. I had no issues with the rears on mine. Though I changed the front springs by one rating (softer) because I found the ride too harsh/jarring at the front.

6k/7k is a very poor spring rate out of the box from Ohlins. 7K rear is basically the same as stock while 6K is over 3x stiffer than stock... Last edited by bbnks2; 04-05-2019 at 10:02 AM.. |

I will, trust me.
First of all I want to know why they did this, then I want them to compensate it. As all the others, I bought a kit for my car and now it doesn’t fit correctly. Of course there’s still a matter of taste, one leans towards the „road“, the other towards the „track“ part. These springs thigh weren’t even good enough for road though. One thing they already told me was that, in order to get a TÜV certificate Germany/EU, they weren’t allowed to pick springs above a certain value compared to the BMW springs. This point falls apart though as some of the original BMW springs, especially M Sport and Performance, are mich stiffer already. Once I out everything together and have an answer from Öhlins, I’ll post an update. |

400/800 is still on the soft side for track duty.
I'd go 500/1000.

Actual experience with Öhlins or general experience with this platform?
It shouldn’t be too stiff for street use and normally, you’d only need much stiffer springs if you’re running semislicks or better. On the other hand, look at your recommendation and the regular spring rates typically used. There’s a difference, but not very big. 20%. Now, how could Öhlins explain the regular 70N/mm springs they use in the rear? |
