Question Bird crap removal

i don't know what's up, maybe the place where i park my car is just a favorite hang-out for all damn birds in the area, but they shit all over my car every day like they've just been on fear factor and had to eat live roaches topped with earth worms and chopped-rotten pig stomach parts out of a bowl made of sun-dried cow-shit. well, maybe that doesn't sound that disgusting to birds

ANYWAYS, how damaging is bird crap for the paint? if very damaging, how fast does it start ripping through the paint to the point where it leaves marks?

thanks.

Not sure how long bird crap takes to leave a mark as I don't usually have that problem. My car is nearly always parked inside and for the odd occasion it isn't, it seems the German birds respect BMW's.

That said, the sooner you can get it off the better. I had a couple of marks left from bloody birds on my other cars but they usually came out with a polish or at most a very mild abrasive. Also, keeping your car waxed helps give some protection and makes removing them easier.

If you're in a bird bomb zone maybe it might be an idea to invest in a car cover?

well, i'm kind of afraid of car covers because people are assholes and after seeing a few cases where some dumbasses vandalized cars just because they were covered, i'm staying away from that idea. otherwise, yeah, there would be no question about getting a cover since finding a garage where i live is like looking for a hymen in paris hilton's vagina. sorry for the analogy girls (and offended guys)!

Well if you keep your surface in good shape with a good wax and/or sealant, then in the short term it shouldn't be too harmful and marks (if any) should in theory come it pretty easily. I'm thinking that if you can manage washing your every weekend or two, then any droppings shouldn't have enough time to leave a mark. Then again, I'm not sure how soft the paint/clearcoat is so don't take my word as law.

I leave a bottle of Griot's Speed Shine in my trunk just for this occasion. Birdcrap is acidic & if left on the car will etch the clearcoat. I use the speed shine to completely saturate the offending crapage. If I let it sit for a few minutes I can usually then switch the sprayer to stream and it's powerful enough to blast the assparticles away. While it may not remove all traces, at least its enough to get me to my next car washing.

Just make sure to NEVER wipe it off with a towel, rag, etc.

You run the pretty strong risk of putting scratches on the car.

well, that highly depends on how you do it though! of course i'm not gonna do it with an old, dirty dry towel...but still, i guess there is always a risk.

I lay a saturated piece of paper towel over the bird dropping for a couple of minutes. It'll disolve it to the point where u can just wipe it off.

Even with some sort of liquid, dragging it across the car WILL produce fine scratches. That's why I don't even wipe it with any kind of rag & try to just wash it off with the speed shine.

i try to take it off asap. usually when i get home. i just soak it first with quick detailer. then spray quick detailer on a micro fiber cloth, and try to blot most of the crap off. then clean up with some more quick detailer.

if your car gets s**t on everyday, i seriously would consider finding another place where you can park and see if that helps out any. good luck!

I keep a Microfiber polishing cloth in the trunk with a small bottle of Meguiars Quick Detailer for this very task. I'm a Zaino convert, but I'm using up my surplus Megs's QD on bird poo detail.

My preferences of removal in order of fav

1. Was my car
2. Hose it off and use my leaf blower to dry the car
3. Poorboys Spray and Wipe or their Bird-sh*t remover. Soak the area by using a very wet mf to soften the poop. If im away from the house i use the Bird Sh*t remover. Then spray the area good with Poorboys Spray and Wipe, couple of sprays on another mf and wipe, but never wipe with the same side again. As little pressure as possible

Speed Shine is avaliable at griotsgarage.com - it can't be purchased at a store.

While I love Griots stuff, any quick detailer spray will do the job.

Just out of curiosity, how long was the dropping on the car for? And how is the car normally stored (garaged, outside in the sun, etc)?
