Cupholders SUCK...no more coffee!
So I decided to bring coffee into my car for the FIRST time this morning, since I was running late for work. Decided to stop by a local coffee shop and got a latte. On my way out of the parking lot, I went over a bump and the shaking caused the foam in the coffee to rise, and I got a couple of droplets fall on the cupholder and on my seat (didn't see any go on the center console). Although it is very insignificant, it still pissed me off. I tried wiping the coffee off the seat with my beanie, and when I got to the office, I used a wet paper towel...but who knows if any droplets went in between the folds of the chair, but I doubt it, since I only saw a couple of droplets fall.
Sometimes, I wish my car was 2 years old so I wouldn't care about stuff like this. It's really stupid that little things like this can ruin my day. It is only a car and I should really get over it. This is the downside of owning new things...at least to an OCD individual like myself. |

Bro, I had the same problem when I first started bringing coffee in the car. Every turn, bump, when I pushed the brakes or stepped on the gas, coffee everywhere. Between the trim and the dash was so annoying. I decided if I was going to put coffee in the car, I'd get a napkin, place it on the cup, then put the plastic lid over it. Never had a problem since. Either that or get a mug with a sliding lid. Trust me, it pisses me off too.

So what you're saying is that the cup holder should be gyroscopically stabilized on an actively dampened platform...
Brilliant!!

So a couple drops of spilled coffee ruin your day? Ugh ..
In my A4, the cup holder was placed right over the dash. I've had entire coffee's spilled over the entire dash and shifter. Bottom line.. everything comes out in the wash. |

i agree that cupholders suck... but what car companies really need to make is blunt holders. it will revolutionize the way people drive and smoke. and it leaves such a nice scent in the car

Dude.. seriously.. screw our cupholders..
My friend sat on the passenger side, and there was a can of orange soda on the left side of the cupholder. One of my friends was sitting on the passenger side. While we were heading to my other friend's house, he, out of nowhere, lifted his leg and he accidentally kneed the cupholder itself from the bottom to up!!! The soda can literally flew in the air and when I caught the can, the can was upside down The soda was nearly full, and when I had the can in its rightful position, it was like half full............ The soda got all over the center console, but thankfully, the Idrive is fine and most of em got on the floor mat. Seriously.. first I thought it was pretty cool to have a cupholder comin out from the dash, but now, I think it's a bad spot to place (the left one). Did anyone else have this problem??

Yeah I had a B5 A4 as well and that one cup holder above the radio, climate control was an aweful idea. I never used it for fear of even water spilling over all the electronics.

First time I had coffee in the car, took a right hand turn at a moderate speed, coffee mug went flying out of the cup holder (the cup holder 'arms' helped to push the cup upward) and it bounced around the passenger seat a few times making sure to spray coffee everywhere. The good news is that it was one of those mugs with the sliding top. The bad news is that the top wasn't closed.

One time I had a bladder-buster sized diet coke in my shallow (VW Touareg) cup holder. The drink flew foward on stop and exploded once it hit the gear selector. The AC buttons were sticky and the gear selector crunched when moving it. It made me sick. At least it wasn't regular coke.

....instead of the cupholders coming out of the dash, it would be sick if you had a little tray that came out. You can use it as a snack tray, blunt rolling tray, etc. |

Yeah, I agree the cupholders suck...big time. Have you ever tried to navigate a normal sized mug into the cup holder at night? Good luck!

Oh wow this reminds me when i was driving from work at around 11pm and was drinking bottled water. i put the bottle in the cup holder and forget to put the top on. So while I'm on the interstate on-ramp the bottle flies out of the cup holder twirling in the air, hits my shifter, and into the driver's side foot-well. When i finally got to the bottle it was almost all gone. And when i turned on the light i saw water in every little crevice at the front.
Luckly it was just water

Eh....no biggie. Had it happen a few times. I always keep napkins in my car. So I wipe it up right away.
I don't think it has as much to do with the cupholders as it does with the suspension setup. I always had issues with full cups in my truck. You just drive carefully and everything will work out fine most of the time. |

The cupholders have a tendency to launch empty or partially filled cups too.
