I read a little while back (although I'm damned if i can find it now), that someone was told by a dealer SA that BMW was releasing software, whereby the N54 would be tuned for performance or for refinment (I understood this to mean noise level), at the owners choice.

As I read it, this was only software, and nothing to do with the Performance Package.

Anyone recall this? And anyone know anything more about it?

How do I find out what software version I have. I asked the dealer, and the SA read the key and gave me a printout. All that shows is "Plant Integration" - E89X-09-03-520 (which is interesting since I have an E82). And "New integration level available" - Yes.

Does that make sense to anyone?

No.

There is the performance pack. Then there is the 335is. There is no "mellow" tune. Plus, the stock car is quiet to begin with.
