Question any idea what is happening to my alloy?

Going over my car yesterday using ONR for the first time (has no relevance to this but thought I would share) and found this patch on the alloy. The alloy has slight discolouration too.

Anyone know what is the cause, preventative measures etc. They are all in good nick other than this one alloy.

Gutted!

^^What he said.
Probably caused by a stone chip.
Pretty much unpreventable buddy...

Looking down the left wheel bolt hole, it looks like it has had a patch repair done on it and the edge is lifting

This doesnt impact the drive in anyway does it? Do I need to be concerned that this could be repairing a crack or anything like that?

It seems to drive fine...

I'd wager that wheel has been (poorly) refurbished at some point.

its failure of the lacquer, its probably had a smart repair as the original lacquer shouldn't do that even if it has a stone chip.

I don't think this will make the wheel in any way dangerous though.

+1. Had similar with mine so got a full proper refurb (chemical strip, repaint, lacquer, etc) and still looking like new without a single mark.

As per the others, it just looks cosmetic. I had a wheel on my Saab do something similar, happily I rashed it on a granite kerb and had to get it properly repaired

Cheers all. Will keep a close eye on it. If it gets worse will try refurbishing it.

Slightly O/T, but is the lacquer starting to lift on the edge of the wheel centre cap, or is it just a reflection of something?

I think that its just wear and tear on the centre wheel cap. They seem to damage easily. I have replaced two of mine...its a 2 minute job
