I was chasing down an EGR cooler SES and when I pulled off the turbo inlet pipe, I noticed the pipe and all around the inlet were covered in oil. I think this is the source of a mild burning oil smell I've been noticing, so that was a nice bonus find. Is this a common issue? The baffled sleeve piece of the inlet pipe was covered in oil (obviously) and as such, it appeared to affect sealing ability which, I am assuming, is how the oil got everywhere. Just wondering if this is common. I suppose the answer is "who cares, get a catch can" but was curious.

P.S. Thanks Yozh, for your write up on iaknown's EGR block-off thread. It was very helpful

On the X5D - finally took care of the T-Stat, Water Pump, Idler Pulley, and Fuel Filter today - took about 6 hours in total (My ABC's are missing). I'm a C- mechanic but learning my way.

Only issue was that I replaced a seal on the lower red boost hose - it didn't seem to seat properly when I was under there and sure enough it wasn't set right when I drove off.... Reduce engine power and it was popped off when I got back underneath.

I can't quite figure out how to seat it properly - anyone dealt with this on the X5D?

EDIT - ended up getting the charge airhose in - took some cussing - have to push up with right hand while pulling down with left hand. Goes in at a slight angle. The edge will sit lower than the IC - thanks smassey

Same "issue" on my car as well, and probably everyone elses. It's just the CCV dripping oil down. A catch can will help, but I don't think it's actually hurting anything.

^--- thanks for the confirmation. Ridiculous engineering but good to know it's not unique.

Chased another SES, this one for the SCR metering valve. Easy job but I had a helper nonetheless...

Thanks for the tip. This is what I'll be doing next time I get under my car. As a quick-fix, I tied para-cord from one side to the other side around the screws to keep all of that as close to the underbelly as possible. I don't think my situation is as bad as yours though.

no problem. used a 12x12 sheet of 18guage alum. with stainless screws etc. used washers on screws to give bigger footprint.

Ordered some MFactory coilovers. Might do an LSD as well if I have the ability to swap over internals.

Thumbs down fun w/ potholes

my runflats did not like the 6 to 8" pot hole on the dark highway that I hit a 5am Tuesday morning. Two driverside flats, fractured front rim, replacing shocks and struts, and I recently cancelled my rental car coverage....

Had the wheel/tires balanced again as I suspected that the selling dealer did a crappy job when the installed the new snows. Right I was, all were out. One wheel is bent, what a surprise. I'll get that fixed when I put the summers on.

What is required to load the flash? And how much does it cost?

Yesterday, I was able to service the transmission, change oil/filter, fuel filter, turn all four rotors, and put some power stop pads on all the way around. Also installed some Nitto NT555's in the rear. Next up is intercooler and boost tube.

Need a reliable DCAN cable (I got mine from one stop electronics), USB female to Mini USB male, and an android phone. The cost for Stage 3 was $210 after everything.

You also would need 1 hour of time without a phone (need uninterrupted connectivity, so no phone calls and such) and also either a second vehicle to charge the battery, or a battery tender.

USB OTG Compatible ANDROID Device(https://www.symlis.com/blog/2015/1/1...ported-devices), USB OTG Adapter(https://www.amazon.com/Insten-Micro-.../dp/B005QX7KYU), INPA Cable(https://www.amazon.com/Docooler-DCAN...rds=INPA+Cable), and the xHP App on said device. Then you pay about $90 for the tune.

Thanks! Got the parts needed coming in the mail.

Intercooler and boost tube got installed today and I was also able to replace the vacuum lines to the engine mounts.

Anyone know how many feet of vacuum lines are needed to replace everything?

How long did the engine mount lines take you? And where did you buy the line for them? That's next up on my to do list, followed by the rest of the vacuum lines.

That was one of my first cosmetic mods. I love the difference.
