Engine issues aside it's a bit daft to say "struggles to move a 3 series" when it musters 170bhp and does 0-60 in 8s and on to 144mph. It's obviously no use for your driving style but it suits others. I probably wouldn't pick the same engine again because the economy is poor.

That was exactly my thoughts when I bought mine. There were 2 cars on the dealers forecourt that were exactly the same except that one was a 320d and the other a 320i. The 320d was 4k more than the 320i.

As I've got a fuel card I thought to myself "fuel economy is not a big problem and I will save myself 4k"

What I should have done was tested them back to back and then I'm sure that I would probably have gone for the 320d.

Assuming it's not exhibiting problems then it is absolutely silent at tickover and it loves to rev which is good mated to such a crisp 'box.

My 320i, mechanically wise has been flawless. In comparison to BMW 6 pots, yes it is a bit of a munter but then again, its bound to be.

However, compared to other manufacturers 4-pots, I think it is superb.

I will, however, be looking for a 335i later this year. I am just so jealous of 335i owners
