2nd This is still a work in progress, but I'm getting errors indicating that the crankshaft position sensor is going bad so I have to tear apart the intake manifold to get it off.
I have a good feeling that that sensor isn't the only thing wrong with my car right now though. I'm having a lot of weird symptoms like long cranking startups, and really weak power delivery. (Feels like the car is in limp mode)
You should get the car read by DIS/INPA, it'll probably tell you something relevant about which O2/MAF sensor is dead and/or issues with vanos solenoids. Also run a can of Techtron (or 2), it works.

I had it diagnosed, they ran the codes, and told me it was the crankshaft position sensor. 10 min away from finishing it, so I'll finish it tomorrow. I'm not optimistic, as these sensors don't normally fail. If its just a vanos that needs to be cleaned, that job looks pretty easy.
I'm getting it diagnosed at the dealer tomorrow. Last time I had it diagnosed at an indie (who specialized in BMW)

BIG UPDATE: CAR looks to be fixed with the crankshaft position sensor. I'm still cautiously optimistic though

well due to money and bills i may end up with a 06 325i, 109k on the clock.

should i look for all the same things i have in my first post regarding a 330??

i saw a thread here saying the main diff's were: exhaust, 3 stage intake manifold, ECU, 13 inch brakes, 18inch wheels, and a few creature comforts inside the cabin.

Look for a broken headbolt (not valve cover bolt). They are common on 325i. Not a big deal if it is not leaking. Dealer replaced the bolt for free under warranty. That was 30k ago and no issues. Search for headbolt on this forurm. In one of the posts, I posted pics to show the location. Good luck!

Someone was talking about this on the general forum...here is the link http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=321170. Look at posts 9 , 20, and 71 (it is circled in red).
