Strange numberplate light error

Hi guys, after a bit of a help with a strange issue i'm having.

Basically every time I go back to the car it appears one of the rear numberplate lights turns on and the other is dim.

I thought it must have been a dodgy unit but on closer inspection the problem switches between the bulbs but only one ever appears at full brightness.

They are both LED and the error warning message only comes on some of the time.

Any ideas??

Stick two standard lamps in and see what happens.
